question is... where are people heading? Long Reef, Windang, Wanda?

A couple weeks back I saw someone out solo at Makaha. Looked brilliant. I'm keen to give it a try if anyone else is. Can't work out how you wold get there other than a broad reach from longy or a walk with gear on the north side. Let me know if you need someone for shark bait....

Dolls point only works if there is a serious south to easterly swell. Generally speaking when the ocean is a no go due the waves being to big Dolls point will start working. However with the sand erosion it now seems to only work around low tide.

Another option I haven't tried in years is La Perouse. I have sailed there about 9 years ago in a southerly with big swell. For some strange reason the waves seem to bend around the Headland there and can roll into the bay. I have seen it work really well once before but the swell coming through between the headlands was massive. The drawback of that spot is that you will usually get a the swell being reflected back of the massive break wall opposite the bay. I found this can result in some pretty nasty criss cross chop the further out you go.

Roberto's advice is on the money! Today the outer reef was breaking owing to the NE swell and looked awesome... but the SE was light and not enough to get out from Brown Water/Florence st. It was a long way out and looked very isolated.

The reef at Newport was just starting to break this afternoon and on the low tide it would have been awesome. Pity the SE didn't hang in. I did get out for an hour or so off the island and got some waves right off the point and into the Crosswave. Tricky but awesome and the bog in no wind was not that fun!

Easterly swell indicates Newport could be better!

wanda has big swell and a strong southerly / south westerly. been to long reef and Makaha this morning and didn't seem as windy as south side and more westerly. hope all have a good sail today. it is definately on

It turned out the peak at White Rock was the goer. It's the break just before Makaha. The wind was too South for Newport to work - it was a mess any way as the swell kicked up.

At White rock the swell was wrapping around the headland and on the big sets it was well over mast high but still pretty full and crumbly on most waves. But soooo good. The trick was to stay as close to the rocks as possible and pick up the 3rd wave of the biggest sets that looked like there would be a decent wall to it.

Go out at 1:00pm on a 5.0 and sailed until 3:30.. then the wind started to die and catch a lot of us out.
