Any one else get hit by stingers at kyemagh this week? i got some long thin tentacles wrapped around my legs while water starting and have stings all down my calf musdcles now.

Oh yeah! Stung big time on my legs. I've just shaved the stung areas and soaked in vinegar. Still hurts like crazy though....

I went for a SUP from Ramsgate to Brighton yesterday morning and was surprised at the variety of different stingers in the water. Lots of small ones, the size of a tennis ball, with long tentacles. Some strange looking ones with reddish colouring; the standard clear jellyfish; and the odd big brownish ones that used to be quite prevalent but not so anymore.

I more worried about HEP or some other major disease rather then stingers.

I wonder how many people remember the "good old days" back around 2002 when El Nino was in full swing. In those days Botany Bay was so full of jelly fish you almost needed a weed fin.

I am guessing the warmer water temperatures this year are a good breeding ground for them.

No need for a weed fin, just sharpen the leading edge of your fin. Cuts like a knife through butter

I remember it Steh and it was the main reason I stopped sailing at Botany. Yesterday was the first time in years I have seen quite a few jellyfish. On Sunday we even had dolphins in the Bay. I'm guessing the warmer and dare I say cleaner water is bringing them back.

Cleaner water is great but has it's down side.. They have just taken photos of a great white shark in Lake Macquarie..

And you were there to see it to disprove me?...50m is the length of a swimming pool and trust me I know that estimate well. This guy was almost a speck in the sky and wasnt far from me....the wind was actually howling, perhaps the strongest I had been out swimming/surfing in ...I was out on a mal with my daughter and I was swimming pushing her onto waves and it picked up my board like a toothpick and threw it the length of the leggie.

I dont need to exaggerate as I have nothing to prove..dont know who he was but he was the best I had seen down there in about 10 years of watching them.

Don't you love the Trolls who have to attack people's opinions/observations etc. That is the only thing that p*sses me off with forums. Why cant we all just share info instead of attacking people.

yeah...I think I have to concede defeat...I checked over on the "dark side" forum and they said the record is only 25m....but it was effen huge from where I was.

It was around 5:30pm

Kyeemagh was gusting 38knots (The really strong gusts had a lot of north in them). I think it is totally possible for a kite to catch a green one and get lifted 50m.

Pretty full on conditions.... A few of those big ugly purple jelly fish back in the Bay also.
