Whats the go in NSW?
I'm a new windsurfer, longer time sailor, so i ask to the NSW crew:

-Who are ya?
-Where do you sail?
-What do ya ride (as in gear, not ya missus/partner)?
-Is all NSW StormRiders based around Syd, or any North Coast action (apart from random events?)

-I'm Dean
-Sail at Urunga (near Coffs Harbour) or out Armidale (when inland)
-Currently old custom 8"6' with old NP 6.5m cammed mostly, NP pro-gression race boom (need new gear, help!)

Yeah, i reckon a social club would begood, but hey, there probably isn't a whole lotta windsurfers up here on the North Coast and Northern Tablelands, so probably only work in Newy and Syd

But im interested to see who is sailing in our State hey

Yeah I just saw some tumble weed to, its a ghost town in NSW, maybe a big westerly or southerly might stir things up!

Just started back into it (board is 3 days old) after about a 20 years break. Had first sail on new board yesterday and cant get the smile off my face.

About the social sailing side; the longboarder scene is already pretty social but we're trying to make it more that way. Most of the fleets (Cronulla, Narrabeen, Dobroyd, Wollongong, hopefully Lake Mac and the Eastern Suburbs next summer) spend as much time kicking back after racing as they do on the water.

We're trying to kick along a "cruising" side more, particularly because we can cruise pretty much no matter what the wind is like. Last year, we spend a few days cruising at St Georges Basin. This year the One Designs have a south coast racing/cruising/longboard wavesailing weekend planned for November.

On the January long weekend we're having a Longboard Windsurfer Festival at Port Stephens. This will include the One Design nationals, the Raceboard Oceanics, the Junior One nationals, but we're also trying to fire up a cruising section and a longboard wavesailing group. Basically, the cruising section can join in on the social side and cruise around within the safety cover of the racers. The racing will include a marathon, allowing the cruisers to sail around the bay within the marathon's safety cover. We're also hoping to include some coaching that will cover cruisers as well as racers.

Although the racing will be good, we're not having a 10-race-a day grind. There'll probably only be three races a day and then we'll head back to the club or go fun sailing. There should be sections for Windsurfer Classics (the original dacron-sailed daggerboard version), Silver Fleet for the less experienced sailors, and a sub-class for other old boards.

We've got more events on the boil; perhaps a cruise out to Cockatoo Island to check out the history and hit the licensed cafe before staying in the on-site tents, or a picnic on Clark or Shark islands. Why take a sea kayak when you can sail or paddle a windsurfer?

Oh, by the way the Windsurfer One Design/J1 group is emerging, but it's already fairly big; we had over 60 NSW sailors racing last summer.

Just a beginner but im out in all conditions, or atleast i would be if it wasnt for this bloody tennis elbow, i have had it since sailing in Colourndra at Chrimbo. I think i can add another nice spot for a sail, Bundeena inside the royal national park, it has a great camp site and a nice beach to sail from. It also has a sand bar that pushes up a nice little wave when the tides change.

I used to live near Bowraville, then Coffs and windsurfed at Nambucca, Valla Beach, Woonona (spelling?) a bit south of Urunga and at South West Rocks.

The Nambucca River entrance is silted up and it would be difficult to get a decent run there, even at high tide. I'm not sure about the entrance at Urunga.

We left Coffs in 2005 and did not really see that many people windsurfing. I sailed a couple of times in the Harbour but wasn't windsurfing all that much then. A fellow I went to Church with Steve, is really into it and is a great wave sailor. He might still be around there as I don't think he had any plans on leaving.

The Ozwindsurf online mag has a past issue which has a good read for the mid north coast spots, it does mainly focus on the wave spots. I've just moved to Corindi which is north of woolgoolga. I have sailed the coffs creek a couple of times. Don't see many windsurfers there, mainly tea baggers. Only works in wind with north in it, otherwise I mainly stick to the harbour, the shorey only gets nasty when the swell outside is > 3m, even then it is not too hard to make it to deeper water quickly. The only regular guy i've seen is Fabian (german exchange student)

Hearns lake/flat-top at woopi has some guys out regularly when a decent southerly blows, however again is wave orientated. I'm hoping the summer delivers some decent northerlies as I want to venture up to yamba. The runs there look sweet.

Dism, still need to catch up for a sail, with uni/work commitments though I'm rogered time wise, for at least another couple of months.
