Gday Folks

I am planning a move to Sydney for work in the next few months.
I am a pretty regular windsurfer here in WA and have a big range of gear for slalom/speed and waves/bump and jump .

I plan to live in the inner west so will probably try sailing in Botany bay first and go from there.

What gear am I likely to use in NSW?
I need to reduce the size of my collection to fit into a sydney size pad!!!!

Why? Stay were you are. While NSW can be awesome both for flat water and wave sailing it's nowhere near as consistent as WA.

For what it's worth. Most people that do Slalom have gear in the 10 to 5.5 m range. Most wave sailors have 6.2 down to 4.2 (except for Dan, I think he only has a 4.8... but then again he is a freak). You'll also need floaty boards. The conditions here range anywhere from "almost no wind" to "hold on to your pants".

If you want to make the most of it you'll need the sails to cover it.

wait until you experience Sydney traffic & inconsistent wind & forecasts and you'll realise why we are quite (wind) frustrated here in the east coast!

Its pretty funny when Western Australians complain about Perth traffic. Compared to Sydney, driving around Perth is like driving around a country town on a Sunday afternoon.

Funny also when they complain about the lack of wind and you check the graphs, green arrows for the next week.

As a fellow Newbie to Sydney I'd reckon on a higher volume waveboard with a 4.5, 5 and 5.5 or similar setup, starting at Botany Bay for the best wind/flat water but perhaps Wanda (Cronulla) if you want to get into the waves. Even then, haven't gotten out as much as I'd like....if you want to sail more regularly you'll need a slalom kit with some proper size on it.

My most used sail here in WA is reflex 7.8 and 7.0. So a bigger one might be a good idea too!!

How many days decent sailing have you guys had this summer?

PS. Milsy you know us WA rednecks......I wont bring just one gun!!!!!!

the biggest i use is a 5.4 and seem to get enough water time.
a 7m+ will be ample.

just dont try and sail anywhere north of the bridge
drive south and get the better breeze everytime.

I had the same question about a year ago. And I came to the same conclusion.
However, this season I think I'd have been well happy with a 90l + 5.5 FSW as my main combo. Perhaps even smaller. I'm 80kegs.

...actually, I think a quiver with a hole in it around the 6m mark might be the best idea. Wind seems to be ~17 or ~25, and rarely in-between. This is only one season in Sydney talking though.

Browse the buy and sell for the most commonly used gear I guess, perhaps the best idea.
