Hi everyone, I will be travelling the south coast of NSW next week and intend to spend a few days at Lake Illawarra. Any suggestions on the best spots for safe flat water sailing?
Thanks Garry.

Kanahooka Pt is good in a noreaster, a good alternative if the noreaster is marginal on the coast. Got to be a bit careful walking out over sharp rocks during the launch. Go very slow, use booties or securely tie a pair of thongs to the mast base. (One run! I usually fancy myself as a knot tier. One run and they were gone! )

Depends on the wind and the tide. Could provide a long list of criteria but you will find the locals at one of three spots:

Bundah Place, Primbee - shallow water speed sailing in NE, Westerly (unlikely this time of year) or S to SW. Weed fins advisable in case you hit bottom.
Illawarra Yacht Club Northcliff Drive - Noreast seabreeze, super safe and friendly in a 1-2m deep, almost fully enclosed bay.
Kanahooka Point (just keep on the main road that comes off the freeway)- Noreast seabreezes or moderate SE frontal winds. Long runs across the lake - bumpy.

Drive a bit longer and spend a few days at husky, Sanctuary point is only a few minutes away and works in most wind directions and is a great sailing spot.

We'll that's what I'd be doing

I agree with JH, I sail at both Illawarra and Sanctuary Point in the southerlys, Sanctuary point is the fav even though its a longer drive

Illawarra has some ugly big jellyfish in there at the moment, unpleasant to fall into and they sting legs.
