BAYSIDE COUNCIL ph 95621666 , is proposing a OFF LEASH / UNFENCED DOG EXERCISE area at the northern end of KYEEMAGH Beach ... exactly where we kit up for a windsurf.
If it's approved , it will be a designated off leash dog exercise area and listed on all dog websites
its basically starts on the beach at the rock wall and goes down about 100 - 150 of Beach area.

last time this was raised by Council in 2013, it was stopped due safety concerns for kids at the swimming enclosure, risk of dog attacks , risk of injury to protected and endangered shore birds.

keep an eye on the bayside council website and look out for the HAVE YOUR SAY link to lodge your submission .

Its not going to be just a handful of locals .... the M5 will be bringing 100's of dogs .

dont get me wrong , I love dogs , but i love children and the native birds and wind surfing .
ill be writing to Council to find an area for the dogs further down the beach where it isn't as busy as KYEEMAGH

is there actually a proposal somewhere on their website? I can only find reference to the survey a couple of years ago.

I don't see the issue.....I hear claw marks on your sails produce better on-water speeds

Here is the link to voice your concerns :

The issues I see are:
parking ..... once the area is declared official off leash area and it will be listed on all doggy web sites around sydney .. the M5 will bring a lot more cars to the car park making it harder for us to get a spot , not to menton all the dogs running around the beach when we are gearing up . they can say what they want about poo bags and owners picking up after the dogs poo

my kids usually play around the netted swim zone which is nearby and who knows what dogs will be running freely . Its too close to where the kids are swimming . The are better and safer spots further down lady robinsons beach to have an off leash dog exercise where the the swimming areas are 400 - 500m away

you can email council at

[email protected]

to voice your concerns before 20 april 2018 when submissions close. quote :

To be honest I am surprised the area still has free parking. The only issue I can see is if there are in fact more people parking because want to walk their dogs the parking congestion will lead to parking fees or locals only parking sooner or later. It's happened in almost every other council in Sydney.

I don't understand why they'd use that busy area right near the netted swimming area. There's a much better spot on the other side of the river. Big car park there and no beach goers (too grotty). I used to take my dog there.

I actually think fore shore drive would be a better place for a dog off leash park myself

I was at Kurnell today and there were lots of dogs, kiters, some windsurfers, families with children and young people. I did not really see any big problems there, everyone looked happy and enjoying.

They had smiles on their faces because they managed to get a parking space. Not so at Kyeemagh.
