It's apparently going to blow on Saturday and I'm going to be at Hawks Nest for the weekend. Is Jimmy's too open and will become hugely choppy? The run on the map though looks like one will be flying parallel to the beach. Can anyone advise the best spots and anything to be wary about?

If you are looking for flatter water I'd recommend the southern most Myall Lake, Bombah Broadwater about a 15 minute drive from Hawkes Nest. Its a huge expanse of water. I sailed there doing about 25 knots for 10 minutes in one direction and only got about a third of the way out. The water was pretty flat in a southerly wind too. I'm not sure but I don't think its very deep.

Don't go down the Winda Woppa end, big shore break there due to sand erosion.

Adam & Phil, I have not forsaken you guys

Just catching up with some very old buddies, some I haven't seen for over 10 years. I thought of bringing the windsurfing gear....maybe not wise to hehe...hic!

Heard good things about Jimmy's but sounds like a better go to NE spot. Good river system for yak fishing too it appears.

I've often though it would be good in a SW..shark sightings worry me but not sure how much risk there really is..

Kiting, I go up in around the next bay to the west from winda woppa (launch from the point on the west side) from wnw to sw (west is best), not flat but better than the open bay, which can be very bumping with tide against the wind, not a big area though.
Working upwind a bit more at low tide it is a little more protected from a big sand bank that comes out from the river mouth.

From memory the tide was heading out for another 1hr after.
Depending on tide direction have had some fun on small waves around the entrance to the river.
One end of the tack is closer to shore and it does get flatter.

For the next few months often the shoal bay webcam shows white caps early in the morning from the west till about lunch time when we often got nothing in Newy

Here is a pic from last year
