Hey all, just wondering if Jervis Bay is any good in a Westerly... say Honeymoon bay/beach near Currarong?

What about out front at Currarong - looks like it could be good/fast sailing due to the rock formations?

And does Sanctuary Point work in a Westerly?

Hi Mat,

I used to sail JB on a westerly many years ago, launching from Plantation Point and would sail toward Calalla. Foolishly may I add. I would be on my own, on a wave board and not much else. JB on a westerly is very much off-shore and is bloody lonely (and dangerous) if you suffer gear breakage. Similarly, Currarong is also dangerously off-shore on a westerly also. I would not recommend it...

St Georges Basin (Paradise Beach) however is quite sailable. There's a few guys that will be out there on a good day however for me personally, I prefer to travel the 45 minutes north to Primbee on Lake Illawarra. It blows onshore from the launching site and is nice and smooth for freeriding / freestyle / GPS speedsailing.

is that Mathew from the "pit crew" as tony mentioned the whole area jervis bay /sanctuary pt isn't great in a westerly because of mt sassafras and heavy dense forest, the best bet is primbee and always a great bunch of guys to sail with

Honeymoon Beach is okay actually. I have sailed there in west and south west wind. The only problem is a lot of weed in close to the beach, but once you're over that you just have big chop to contend with.

Thanks all - yes it is Mat from the pit crew. Indeed I have been to Primbee a few times - everyone here has been great to chat with.
I even just got my hands on a Delta 16... oh what fun it will be to sail with 55deg rake..

The forecast for Sunday arvo at Jervis Bay, is for NW with somewhat big sails... but nothing special forecast for Primbee. So it is good to hear that Honemoon's might be possible, but if the mountain is in the way, then Primbee it is.

I dont mind a little bump 'n' jump, as that is the predominant sailing in Melbourne ... ( Port Phillip Bay appears to have a slight advantage in that it can be sailed in any wind direction, from multiple launch spots. But it requires a fair drive to get to some decent flat-water or waves... )

Paradise is great fun to sail just stay west of the boats ankored theres a few bits to hit in the shallows but if its blowing sunday ill be keen to sail there

Mathew honemoon bay and longbeach are the end of the line as far as swell and chop goes and dead onshore
I'll catch up with you at primbee the 16cm delta will be interesting

I have a brand new 7.8 I'm itching to rig up. Is the consensus that there will be a sailable westerly on Sunday??

No wind from what I can see either today, tomorrow or Monday :-(

7.8??? What size board are you using it on Nige?

Apologies to the original poster for getting OT...

Tony, if it's sub 20knts, I'd be using my 115ltr Rocket.

Yesterday the charts looked slightly ok (if you turned ya head sideways and squinted

), but that's completely gone now.

Damn this has been a depressing run we're having. So much so that I've locked in a trip to Lake George next January.
