- injury insurance? Short term disability?
- gear insurance?
- third party insurance if someone on the beach trips over your rig and hurts themselves?

The AWA insurance used to only cover you (third party injury) when sailing in an club organised event - so usually a competition but not just general casual sailing 99.9% of the time by 99.9% of people.

I understood the equivalent Kiter's association insurance covered members when kiting at anytime, it doesn't have to be an organised event by an affiliated club.

I read on Seabreeze somewhere a while ago AWA (via Ian Fox) were looking at insurance providers to see if the AWA insurance could cover members when sailing even in non club organised events. I would figure if Kiters can get it why not windsurfers ?

I also figure this would be a great selling point for the average windsurfer to join the AWA (via your local club) as you get 3rd party injury insurance for all sailing activities. At present the biggest attraction to the average windsurfer joining the AWA (via a club) is to compete in the club events, of which a large number of people either don't want to, or find it hard to make / find the time / travel to the location. Cheap 3rd party injury insurance for whenever you are sailing would surely be a big drawcard.

So does anyone know if the AWA insurance now covers members 24/7 or is it still just when participating in affiliated club organised and registered events ?


(I would like to point out that I do appreciate the work the volunteers of the AWA and all the affiliated clubs put in to running, organising, promoting windsurfing and I would suggest everyone reading this should go join, the bigger the membership the better the service and the bigger the voice, cheap insurance or not).

Yes I was going to rejoin Marmong if the insurance would cover me for everyday sailing..

I am pretty sure a NSW Wavesailing association membership includes an annual 3rd party insurance comp or not. Just contact them for what the current status is:

I think you will find that AWA has negotiated 24/7 coverage for us through your affiliated club of choice. If you look at this link and scroll down to the 3rd topic it says for 24/7 coverage but the AWA site has yet to be updated. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is a big deal for everyone to join your local club.
