Welcome to Oz. crap time of the year for wind and warmth but just wait until September rolls around and the sea breezes start. Being at Coogee you are well situated. Botany bay is not far and is probably the best flat water spot in Sydney for nor-easters. Also works good in southerly. If you want waves then head over to Cronulla for nor-easters or Long Reef in a southerly.
Lots of friendly crew around so just introduce yourself and bring beer

enjoy dude, I am 1.5 years into the sport and have found the guys/gals who sail at Botany Bay really friendly and helpful with all manner of tips. Bestic St Kyeemagh for any wind from the North (south end of the road in a southerly). Foreshore Rd, Botany from the West (NW to).

By saying Rozelle, I assume you mean Rodd Point.
Rodd Point is a great longboard/racing venue and in a fresh NE'er it holds own for Free-Ride/Style - although shorter runs. If your not racing its great for the weekday arvo sailing in Summer when you just can't make it all the way to Kyeemagh (in Peak hr Traffic) - so long as the wind blows in (not so much last season) the wind really funnels in here.
You must get out to Botany ASAP though and watch your skill level accelerate! - Make you first sail out there in a NE'er that way the chop won't put you off. Once you've tasted Kyeemagh you'll find it hard to go back to Rodd Point.
But like I said - don't totally discount Rodd Point.

where is the best place for some nnw freeride??

NNW is also good fun up on the Pittwater side of Palm Beach. Can be easier and quicker to get to if you live on the north side.

Welcome, just to reassure you no-one will be laughing! We've all been there and I know as far as the majority of windsurfers are concerned we'd be more than willing to give you a hand/some pointers if you need them. The main thing is get out there and enjoy (even the catapults can be fun!)

STILL waiting on news of my kit arriving from the UK but would be more than happy to meet up and help if I can once it arrives. I'm pretty easy to spot.....6'2" with ginger hair and if that ain't enough I've got OTC stickers on all my sails!

Giles, fellow Pom here (although I try to keep it to myself), been around Sydney for 3.5 years and have windsurfed the whole time (bought kit within 1 week of arriving!). I managed to meet some locals in the northern beaches but the best thing I found for meeting really passionate windsurfers (who are also good blokes) was to join the NSW Wavesailing Association.

You get to find new beaches (one thing I find odd here is that you get to an awesome beach with awesome waves and no one is out... I start thinking of Noah's), meet lots of people and ultimately improve massively as the standard is pretty damn good compared to my old local beaches.

I'm not a Syd sailer (bit north of there!)

But welcome to it, i'm relatively new to the sport (bout last Nov took up) and I live and breathe it now

Ask for some help if you don't know something, everyone wants to see more windsurfers to add to the social side of things, so everyone will help you learn

Read up heaps of technique and watch vids and that, you'll learn quickly with enough info and the right stoke (You will get past that annoying falling stage soon)
