Massive thanks to Craig and another windsurfer (another Craig I think?) today who helped me out of a ****storm at Foreshore Road today.
First Craig showed me the coin trick on a mast that had become welded together. Then both guys helped me break into the car after I locked my keys in!
I'll try and be more sensible next time, promise.
Thanks again fellas.

Hey splishy,

Good to see you again at the car park next time on the water.

Good conditions there at foreshore drive for you and the others there.

Next time I will have a crow bar with me just in case you lock your keys in the car again. Just saying.

Kind regards
Walt

Craig here.... the other skinny silly one that helped was Kenny.
I have had days like that so always happy to help out. Had a good sail at least.
I will put a chainsaw in the truck just in case of any issues.
P.S. Kenny had his pants stolen from his ute I found out afterwards. Luckily his keys, wallet and phone weren't with them.
So it didn't look that sus with 3 goofy guys trying to break into the car!

Cheers again Craig that chainsaw will come in handy for sure! I bumped into Kenny last week and he told me his tale of woe - cheeky buggers, at least he didn't have his gear in the clothes, but I get the impression it was his fave pulling jacket! See you down there soon mate.

Just curios - what is the coin trick for separating masts?

Using coins you can help separate a stuck mast.
First bend the mast and place a tight fitting coin in the gap that has opened slightly due to the bend. when the mast is straightened the coins should be firmly held in the gap. Turn the mast over with coins jammed in and bend the mast again and a slightly bigger gap should open up underneath the opposite side to the first coins. put coins into fill the gap and straighten the mast again. The original coins put in should just fall out as the mast has moved apart very slightly. Turn the mast over so the new coins are at the top. Bend the mast again and put more coins in the new slightly bigger gap underneath opposite the coins still in the mast gap.
Repeat the process at least 1 million times adding thicker coins as you go and you will see the mast slowly come apart. You can use many things as well to put in the gap as it opens up on the outer side of the bend. By bending the mast with the coins etc against the inner side of the bend it levers the mast apart.
This should have very minimal damage if patients is exercised.
Doesn't cost much, about the cost of a GOOD coffee.
Cheers

As a newby still to this sport, I use a one-part (if that is what it is called) mast.

This coin thing sounds like you are going to get two cracks in the upper of your two-part, even if using 5-cent coins. But you guys have done it, and good on you for spreading the knowledge, I guess.

Wollemi,
No cracks or damage if done properly... x 12 masts puled apart.
Best to avoid and sand or dirt getting in there in the first place.
