Hi all,

Looks like this weekend is going to be fun with potential sailing both days.

Wavesailing sign on will be at Gerroa carpark (across the bridge on the left) before 10.30 with a briefing at 10.30 sharp. Please get there early as we could have a window of opportunity early.

The Sydney SUP surfing club are running their event and you need to register before 8am, same location, for that. I know a large majority of us also SUP surf so I urge you all to enter into this too, I am.

There is a southerly forecast for Saturday afternoon, we will watch that closely and have a contingency plan setup if we think we can get some conditions at Windang.

Sunday looks like Windang will be the place with the GPS 10minutes up the road at Lake Illawarra yacht club.

Saturday night is going to be huge with the upstairs area booked out for us. Lucky entry prizes galore, thanks to our sponsors with special mention to the series sponsor WindsurfNSnow

Sounds like the go. What are conditions like at Lake Illawarra regarding water depth etc on a SSW. I take it a normal weedie will suffice or do you need a delta etc for the Northern end as well as I have never sailed there before.

I remember the view from the pub bring it on. We used to race slalom from Geroa many years ago before moving to Huskison.
I think its a wise move, if blowing south to go to the lake, the swell and shore dump at Geroa on slalom gear don't mix real well.

the lake's 'speed strip'/shallow area won't be the go for a average speed GPS event in a southerly - depending on the defined event area you can choose to sail there if you want - but its potential is limited in a southerly (better in a westerly) - it could still produce some good peak speed's with the right set up and good timing - but average speed would be very....average. If you want to sail over the shallow area you will need a weed fin, preferably something very shallow (like a delta), and if its your first time, some time to sail over it a few times to get over the sense of imminent death (by catapulting)

the weekend will be more likely sailing the main body of the Lake - conditions not disimilar to Botany Bay in a southerly - bumpy chop, some small flat sections if you look hard enough - won't be much weed, and it will be blown toward the northern shore if there is any (so might need to work upwind a bit to completly avoid it)

all we need now is some wind!
