No wind just yet. At 6am it was raining but that front is now (7:30am) moving out to sea. It's a clear sky behind it which should clear the path for a Seabreeze.

Swell is about 5 foot but there is a bit of wait between good sets. Plenty of people out on the water for an early Sunday morning surf.

Not sure how strong the Seabreeze will be as the models seems to contradict each other. So I am just going with my gut feeling... I would say it will be about 15 knts by lunch time so we should see some sailable conditions.

Remember the the MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride fundraiser is on today. You should expect delays on the way down from Sydney. For exact details on where to expect slow downs see the MS web site: www.gongride.org.au/about/ride-maps.asp

Looking ahead it seem we might get a few days of good Nor'Easters toward the next weekend.
Update (10:00 am): Nor'Easter started to blow. It's only light at about 5 knts at the moment but a good sign none the less. Waves have dropped a bit but that could be due to the fact that we currently have high tide.

5 ft swell? that can mean a lot of different things to different people. To anyone that surfs, 5ft is a solid swell. I find the waist, shoulder,head,1/2 mast high measurement better.
just my opinion though.

2-3 ft = don't bother
3 ft = better than working
4 ft = time to get out the wave board
5 ft = this will actually be fun
6 ft = you could break a mast
7 ft = you could drown
8-10 ft = I'll have think about this
10 ft + = mommy!

Ps: today was about head high in the good sets

Pps: no point me calling logo, mast, whatever high. That would actually require for me drive down to the beach, rig a sail, somehow stand it upright out in the break, swim back in and call the wave height. Well everyone knows that's just silly.

Instead I just look out the window. If there are waves breaking at the point I know it's time to call it.

It was 5ft faces today if you are short and on your knees it would have been head high. The sludger obviously talks faces not backs.

Was a weird swell though big lumps on the second bommie and consistent swell at the first bommie and chips, but not getting thru to the beach much. Good fun though.

I know it's been talked about before but i've always though the traditional surfing style of denoting a waves size from the back as totally bizarre. Who the f@# looks at a wave from the back....

Was ok up here in the gong today, about head high in the sets, crept up to about 20kts...5kts more would have been nice.

The smaller you call it the harder you are seems to be the trend

I always thought if you call the size from behind the wave when surfing you could make the call how big it was not the guy surfing.
That way the guy surfing can't bullsh1t how big it was.

Yea but how do you know how big it is when it jacks up on the reef or bank if you sitting out the back? For me a mast is a perfectly accurate and relevant measuring stick. Half mast, mast, double mast ect anything smaller you go off your body, waist, shoulder, head ect

im with you.
mast,1/2 mast whatever,is much easier if your talking to windsurfers but as a lot of my mates only surf its also good to know when they are calling it 6-8ft then its starting to get pretty solid not just over head.

Well... not many people but sadly since I don't live in the seven mile beach caravan park the best I can do is looking out the window and putting up a post. Yes I could drive down to the beach and wait around for a windsurfer to show up, take a photo, post that and make a call based that but that way I wouldn't be able to get the posts up before lunch time.

okay people... for the record when I say 5 feet or over you know it's worth the drive. That's about all there is to it. It's pretty simple really.
