As you can tell from the photos below the swell has actually arrived. It's dead South at about shoulder high with some higher sets coming in. Quality is a bit flaky at the moment but that should change as the tide goes out. Wind is up around 20 to 30 knts. from the W but too light on the inside.

Things could improve around lunch time. Very little wind further North so I am thinking Port Kembla might not be windy enough.

Looking ahead I think we might see a Nor'Easter tomorrow in combo with some swell. Christmas Day might also bring some wind albeit with no swell. Looking ahead to boxing day I think the Sydney to Hobart fleet will have their work cut out for them. There is a pretty juicy low pressure system trying to make it's way up from Antarctica.

my brother in-law is in the syd-hobart in one of the smallest boats. I'm not sure I would ever do that race. slow start forecast and they usually get worked with a WSW gale nearing Bass Strait.

Hopefully next weeks southerly will be followed up by a NE for Gerroa magic.

How gusty is Gerroa in a W.

Gusty as f**k! It really only works on the Northern end of the beach on a mid to low tide. It needs about 20 to 30 knts to be consistent enough. Waves can be good... like they are today. Got to finish up some work though...

The interesting thing is that any thing with West in it usually is funnelled along the Saddleback Range. Usually this means you can get 40 knts here while it's almost dead calm further North. Fathers day was one of those days. 70knts plus in Gerroa / Gerringong. Nothing up North. All the footage in this video was shot that day:

Sailed Port K this morning.
Was still plenty of wind around, although gusty. Still blowing up here now.
Surf jacked up to over head, from zero yesterday.

I recall that day. Actually Bellambi was hitting 60/65+ NW. Had my 4.2 shoved up my arse within minutes.

Should have clarified... what I meant was not much in Sydney. I think they had around 25 knts. ... certainly nothing like what it was down here.

I actually think there are a couple of funnels around Wollongong as well but they need the right Westerly direction.

I admire your attempts at weather forecasting for the Gerroa area, but dont you think it should be from someone who has been living there for more than 12mths

Even the experts arent getting it right with these unpredictable La Nina weather patterns

Fair enough... however, if it was for some of the people who have been living here for more than 12months you'd neither get photos nor wind reports / forecasts. I have been told in no uncertain terms by a number of people what they think about it.

Luckily the number of people with positive feedback have far out weight the negatives. In a nutshell, don't like it don't read it. And please none of that localism bullcr*p either. Since the majority of the time I seem to be sailing alone, especially when it's blowing a Westerly like the last couple of days, I can safely claim Gerroa as a my local. And in my place anyone is welcome.

As far as North East or NW to SW is concerned I still will say that Gerroa gets more wind than anywhere else... and trust me I must know since I keep looking those bloody graphs on Seabreeze about 200 times a day.
