So - who's doing the East Coast Championships this long weekend? Open to formula foil and iQ foils.

George's River Sailing Club is hosting the event which can run in Botany Bay or George's river.

Rego closes on Friday $120-$170.

So far we have 9 Formula Foil and 5 iQ sailors registered. Wind forecast looks good so should get 4 races a day done easily.

5 Races held from GRSC on Botany Bay today in a 10 to 25kt gusty westerly to south westerly.
Conditions were tricky... Big (up to 1m) Long Ocean Swell was coming in from the heads heading W which was met by half metre wind driven chop heading E made for some tough rides that meant a lot of people ended up getting wet at least once!

Races were run very well thanks to the start boat crew and I think ever body was happy with the choice of 2 lap races.

As always the starts were critical!

A good start gave you options... Will extending his first leg lead meant he could tack onto Port and safely pass in front of me... as did Matt moments later.

Dowwind took commitment... after Sail Melb & Competting in Europe, Will had heaps on offer

As did Matt & Dave

But it was VERY easy to get over balanced as everyone from 3rd back could attest! Dave recovered from this angle!

On the second lap the leaders had gotten away but Dave missed his lay-line giving him the opportunity to show me his sail... and how to tack properly. Thanks Mate.

We didn't have the water to ourselves... the 29ers were on our course and occasionally gave way. I dipped on Starboard just because it was easier and I wasn't sure if they saw me through the rig... or understood how fast I was going to catch them!

But I went above the next boat... nice to see the 2 person crew fully hicked out!

Some of us gybed better than others...

Getting a bit wet here... but I made it out dry!

There is a start video here... 360 mode best viewed on a phone! I'm working on a race edit soon.

Day 2 was cancelled due to dangerous wind warnings expected to last until 3pm. While some of the more advanced sailors could have handled the conditions the safety of everyone was taken to be a key factor combined with the fact that on Day 1 everyone had been knocked in during at least 1 race!

Day 3 was somewhat disappointing, but the kids banded together around the start boat and made the most of a great day for champagne sailing. 2 to 4 knot SW with occasional gusts to 6 while we bobbed around from 10 to 1:30 then 2 slalom races held in 5 to 4 to 15 (30 seconds) to 4 knots of wind.

There was some great displays of pumping in extremely light conditions such as from
Henry AUS 105

While it took me 23 pumps to get flying in 4 knots... wave assisted with a 950 F4 foil and 10m sail
BerowneAUS123

Roger got Flying in 4 knots to thanks to a millenium wing and 9.5 sail.
Roger AUS 303

There was someextreme light wind gybes, again from
Henry AUS 105

but not me

Will AUS111 andNick AUS537 tried a spot of tandem sailing... badly

Eventually after seeing some sporadic flights the call was made to try a few slalom races.
Race 1 Start saw 2 boats flying over the start line
Dave 688 Matt "1"

There was some big swell and a mid-race 30s gust at 12+ knots that got everyone flying.... briefly!

I also tried a new technique for a flying gybe, where you sitdown on the board as you flip the rig.

See the FullRace here

While Race 2 saw 3 up at the start

See half the race here;

and finally some morefun trying to make the most of the long slog home with a sit-down race!

If that isn't enough there are some older race videos on my YouTube channel:
