Very short walk to food shops supermarket and pub with good resturant . On site toilets cold showers barbecues large grassy area with a sandy beach the best place on lake macquarie for families huge water area hardly used
Wind NE cross offshore not as strong as the slips but much better than marmong
SW best on the lake S good onshore less weed than belmont coal point. Worth concidering for a heat of the summer series or one of the marmong regattas .

I remember sailing there in one of the early Series regattas. If the wind changes direction we can go across the road to the sailing club were we sailed a few times on longboards and DIIs. Stayed at the pub, it was crap.

Agree - the word crap is a compliment for that place

Baz I thought being a wangi boy you could spell local legend Sir William Dobell's name :)

Will have to come and have a sail there. Does the Nor-easter come in on the other side of the isthmus that rick is talking about?

cheers

What's the matter with the pub? Does the pub have no beer?

There is no room, too many DII boards growing in the back yard.

Looks good Barky, worth a shot.
Here's a suggestion for a race weekend venue at Soldiers Point, Port Stephens

http://www.pssac.com/about.htm

*Great deepwater launching off a sandy beach
*Large waterway, no mangroves, minimal weed, clean except for pesky dolphins ;-)
*Perfect in North Easterly breeze
*They hold external regatters such as Laser Nationals, Wally Nations, Nacra 5.8 Nats etc
*Accommodation available right next door at 'Salamander Shores Hotel' (with bar and restaurant I think) www.salamander-shores.com
*Bowling club accross the road for dinner
*similar to Hawkes nest but westside aye

Check out the venue pics of the clubhouse to get a better idea of the great location.
I've sailed out here a fair bit and recommend it. Sorry to hijack the thread Barky.

True Rick -raced dinghies there as a kid - parking is ok bu not great but its still rigging on sand.

That said its excellent in a NE

Yep not much grass, and probably not much shade to protect masts. Rigging on sand is not fun.
Still, worth a recky if desperate for something new. Maybe early September when the first NE hits.
About 2 1/2 hours from Sydney.

A few years ago in a good Nor-Easter, I sailed from Bonnells Bay to Dobell Park. Picked up my kit onto my head and walked across Dobell Drive into Kent Place then the water on the north side of Wangi-Wangi. Tacked all the way into Belmont Bay then a big down wind run back home via Pulbah Island. Took approx 4 hours.
