Its going to be difficult finding a beginner friendly place around there without weed.

I'd recommend getting a weed fin to allow you to windsurf at a few places that are popular around there like Canton Beach. Its a funny place, when you get there it really stinks but after a while your nose gets used to it. The weed is pretty thick in places. If you sail out around 100 meters it clears up and you get a good run in a southerly or westerly.

On a NE wind perhaps have a look on the western side of Budgewoi Lake? The wind would be cross to onshore depending where you can launch. I have never sailed from there so can't tell what its like. I sometimes sail on Brisbane Waters on a NEer and its okay but rarely gets very windy.

If there is a southerly this weekend I'll probably head up to Canton Beach. What sort of finbox does your board have? If its a powerbox I'll have a spare weedfin if you want to try windsurfing there.

got any ideas near north entrance , thought if i get close to the mouth of the lake at least the water is fresh

also if i am going near budgewoi i may as well just go to nords walf or some where on lake macquarie

i was at the canton . then went out to bugiewo lake ,

there were a lot less weeds , but it was a lot more choppy

going to get a small sail on Monday , so hopefully i can pick it up faster

the 6.4 m sail was just too much to learn on

You should head down to Umina/Ettalong beach. Easy to get out with small to no surf (depending which end you launch from) and if the tide is high you can even play in the small breakers up at the river mouth at the Ettalong end.

Not sure if you are looking for flat water or small surf. If you are after flat water, head along to the waterfont Park on brisbane water drive,its mid way between Koolewong and Tascott. Best in anything fron South through to NE, jus be careful launching , booties are probably a good thing as there are a couple of sharp rocks etc

I've launched from there a few times and haven't had any issues with cutting my feet on rocks yet. However it is quite unpleasant trudging out through silt and mud for the first 10 or so meters so maybe having some sort of shoe on that you could then secure to your rig or something like that would be the go. I prefer to windsurfing with bare feet.

Tascott is a good spot for a learner except in westerly winds. The water is of much better quality than in the lakes.

Windsurfers launch from Green Point. You do need booties there though. There are many oyster covered rocks.

Not sure about the other places. Those lagoons look to be too small to windsurf on however as a beginner they may be okay. The wind is probably a bit gusty in those smaller bodies of water as there are a lot of trees and hills around.

Well you must be desperate as Northerly winds are not real good & thankfully, not that common. But if you have to go, try the fish Co-op at north entrance on Tuggerah lake. Launch is hard as have to get up the channel, water is dirty & need weed fin but once you get into the lake proper it is as good as you will find & there is a large shallow/flat water area that can be fun. Someone else may know if the lake on north shore of Toukley is any good. may be.
