I recently did a windsurfing course and I'm looking to buy a board. I'm not looking to do any wave jumping or anything like that; I'm just wanting to buy a good board to start with which will I won't grow out of too quickly. I live in the south of Sydney so I'm intending to stay around Botany Bay, Georges River and Port Hacking. I'll need a board that will take 100kg. The Fanatic Viper 85 has my interest but I would appreciate any advice. dj.

HI DJ,

The Viper is a great board as an entry level/family board. Not many boards will get you improving as quickly but that can have downsides once you've improved in that you can outgrow it.

What board did you do the course on? If you are curious to try out boards like that one then we can organise it easily for you. You may surprise yourself and move past some of these boards quicker than you think.

All the best,

Sam.

Hey Sam. I have a Starboard Go 180 (old one) that I have been riding for a bout a year now, still loving it and improving each time I ride, however.... What do you think I should step up/down to? I rode a JP 125 Free Race earlier this year and really loved it however my wife has a JP Xcite 110 and it would seem a little silly buying somehting so close to her board. What do you think?

Sorry Tim, I didn't check this post again until now but it's great to hear you moving forward so well with your sailing.

The updated version of the 125 you sailed would be the Super Sport 127. I would also think a great next step could be the 130 X-Cite or the Shark (I think you posted that you sailed one a little while ago). Futura 133 could also be worth a look.

All the best,

Sam.

cheers Sam, I will have to hire a couple of those suggestions and give them ago. Many thanks,
Great avo at Botany Bay today, I am stuffed but smiling like a school boy. I had a pretty long bash on my wives 110 with a 4.7 and man thats a whole bunch quicker than the old Go.
