I see the local paper on the Central Coast, has reported a story that three 2 metre Hammerheads were recently sighted and photographed (included with story to prove it) at Wyee Point - which is part of Lake Macquarie.

Says the 3 sharks circled a small runabout with a few people on it and then left them alone.

Bit of a worry that they were that far in the lake - a long way from the ocean inlet. Must be some good feeding available for them. (Heard this is the case since the banning of commercial fishing there a few years ago).

Hope you Lake sailors have improved your gybing and water starts.

Yep Nick that's where I had a visit from one 2.5m Bull shark earlier this year. It was bigger than my board but only a juvenile. Sussed me out then done a u-turn and came straight at me. As I was off the plane at the time, I gave the sail a great pump which scared it off and I was off like a brides nighty.

Follow up:

Local paper had a photo on Friday of two guys who caught a 2m hammerhead in the Lake last week, hauled it into the shoreline, took a photo to prove it and then let it go.

Hope the shark's bigger brothers and sisters are not in the lake......

2m, only a baby. I sail the bottom end of the lake all the time and see them nearly every time I sail. Most sharks I see are bull sharks with the largest hammer around 3 1/2 metres. Apparently there have been sightings of a large white also. Good training, just don't fall in :)
