Surprised to see a few Windsufers there, didn't think it was deep enough for speed sailing.

She is pretty heavy for a chick. I was about 5kgs lighter when I was her age.

Will be interesting to see how the different disciplines go there. Keep us informed if you can.

Are the windsurf guys going to try to use this canal as well?

just spoke to one of the guys who said at low tide the channel is only a few cm deep... they are hoping to be able to windsurf at high tide. If the wind doesnt blow the water out of the bay too much... thats what happens there.

from comp site;

Swedish windsurfer Anders Bringdal has set a new Swedish national windsurfing record after only 90 minutes into the first day of the event. The existing record was 41.96 and his official recorded speed today was 43 knots. Today was meant to be a day of training and warming up in anticipation for the big winds forecast for next week.

Visually it doesn't look too dissimilar to the " nude streaker" boards Chris is designing now.

What the!!....Thats not Speed "Sailing"
Sailing is a water sport not a puddle sport.
If its going to be considered a water sport or sailing then I think there should at least be enought water so that you can't jump over it without getting your feet wet.
Geez!! I stopped playing in puddles when I was ten, won't mum let them play in the deep water???

Sailed Nude and liked. It's the bottom profile and rocker that did it for me. Does the Mistral have Nude side bevels?

Hey Slowie, will the Nudes be hitting the production line? or custom build on application ... just curious .... CA's and Moos taking over at West Kirby ... time for something a bit special with a hint of "au naturelle"

That shape is not too dissimilar to the old classic bid allegro of the late 80's early 90's, excellent for choppy conditions with the beveled rail shape and double concave V

Anders Comment
First day of competition is behind us. With the knowledge of how the bay works we are hoping to see some good times during the upcoming week.
There are still a bunch of unanswered questions. Sailing in High Tide is ok but very choppy in the bottom end of the course. This high tide will not come back for another 2 weeks.
Now the Digger is at it and the top part when dug is 4m wide with a dept of we hope 40 cm..... no doubt it will be less as the tide goes over it.
We do not know what sort of wind we will have but if forecasts are good we will be in the 45-55 knot range.

First day result, I managed on the New 42cm Production proto to get a 43 knot run in.
Top half of the run was fast and I had a peak of 47,06 in the run. Given 30 knots of wind speed we feel optimistic on that we may be able to do something good down here.

The rest of the team was mostly testing the run with Farrel running in the 44 knot peak speed and about 40 knot runs. Zara ran on high 39's peak with a 500m just bellow 35 knots. Now its "Game on"....

The biggest hurdle will be the water condition and wether if it will be possible to get going in a good way in the canal. There will not be another option as the spring time will not be here.

Sailing in the canal will be a bit scary but for sure way fast if we can do it.......

So far I am confident in my material and I think I will be on the following kit.

Board, 42cm
Sail, 5,3-4,7
Fin Gasoil assy, 18-20 depending on the chop.

More to come as we sail in the canal on Monday night.....

Gee they've got balls to run down a 4m wide canal! in 45-55knts we shall see!

I'm sure you will see Farrel on his Mistral 42 and some bigger sizes soon.

Nude custom boards are available now- built to very close tolerances so are essentially "production" boards in that sense. There are 42, 46, and 54cm models. I've had some good times on the 46. Stay tuned for further developments... Larger sizes coming soon.

Theres a lot of potential in Luderitz if they can nail that canal and get the wind.

Bic Allegro Daz .... hmmm looks more like a wider version of my 13" Vitsea needle of 88/89

12 Oct 2010 : Tsunami Tuesday – Hydroptere Record Smashed!

It’s official – after today the Hydroptere is no longer the fastest sailing vessel. It’s previous record of 51.36 was broken numerous times today by Kite surfers!
2nd Lagoon Luderitz lived up to all expectations today with many new records being broken.

Scores of competitors dramatically improved on their Personal Best sailing speeds and 5 competitors reached 50 knots and more!
Winds of around 40 were recorded. The new Speed Channel is proving to be a definite winner for competitors. Once again the organizers of the Luderitz Speed Event have produced record breaking conditions for competitors to be recorded in the Speed Sailing Hall of Fame.

We are waiting for speeds to be officiated by the World Speed Sailing Record Council (WRSSC) to officiate these incredible new speed sailing times, which will be released later tonight.
We shall share these historical results with you as soon as the WRSCC officiates them!
