In order to protect my GT-31 since Aquapac and PAQUA midi were not easy to find here, I do the following.........

/images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif
Put the GT-31 inside the condom first.

/images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif
Unfold the condom to wrap the GT-31 again and leave the strap outside.

/images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif
GT-31 in the option ArmBand from Locosys with strap connected.

No chance to test it this week. Does there anybody do the same thing before?? Work or not?? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

You're not missing anything with the aquapack. I killed my GPS the other day and it was in one and i bought a GT31 yesterday and my pak flooded again today in the Ledge to Lancelin. Luckily i put the GPS in a zip lock bag.
Waterproof my @rse!

Put the GPS in a ziplock bag and clip the aquapack up properly/carefully. Every time the bag has leaked it has been because i havn't clipped it up properly but the ziplock bag should save it.

I can't complain about the GT31 not being watertight, mine spent 55 min in our front loader washing machine in my shorts pocket and I still managed to post after the spin cycle. Nice and clean and not a drop inside. Lucky I guess.

A FRANGER! How, in all the excitement of getting on the water, can you find the self control to put that thing on?

Only possible problem I can see with the franger is pressure on the joystick (no pun intended)

You need one of those little white washers around it to stop it being pushed down.

see here: http://www.mtbest.net/using-navi-in-aquapack.html

I use the not completely waterproof arm pack like this (they seldom get more than a few drops of water inside) and if I think it will be a heavy session with a lot of swimming I use a zip-lock plastic sandwich bag as well:

The bags are very tough and have an adjustable Velcro arm band.

I have a couple of new ones left if anyone wants one. $45. [email protected]

I had an H2Oteck from JP747, quite liked it until I had a crash, then it sprung a small leak.
It had a white paint line right across the window, must have scrapped it across a rail or something.
Was going to order another one, but somebody pointed out the paqua midis are cheaper.
I like the armband on the H2Oteck better, the midi hasn't got as much elastic, and it's a bit big, for my small arms it's hard to get a secure fit.
But I think the midi has a better seal. I was including some paper towel/toilet roll in the H2Oteck, to absorb the slight amount of moisture that got past the seal.

maybe you could use the waterproof badage (opsite flexigrid) its the same texture as a condom but has an adhesive, you could stick it on as a permanately

Why not use the Key Lock to disable the buttons while sailing.

Wow.........Looks like many of you have the broken/leaking Aquapac experiences. What a sharing! I think leaking is not a big problem to GT-31 with IPX-7 but broken Aquapac may lost your GT-31!!! So the Ziplock might be the second defense.

The franger+ArmBand+GT-31 combinaiton will do, I think. And put a rubber washer under the ThumbSticks is a good idea to release the tension from the franger's surface.

Thanks, All of you!

P.S. I swear, I will not leave any GT-31 baby in the water!

Get a PAQUA I have strong Elmo tendencies and tend to bash test anything I use.
The PAQUA has survived multiple high speed crashes etc.
A bunch of my mates all ocean race and swear by the the PAQUA's.
All I have seen on the beech in the last 2 months is leaking Aquapacks
I think if you use a system that has a clamp seal you may need to use Silicon grease to improve the water resistance.
The condom is a good idea, but the ziplock probably more affordable.
Whitworth marine here in Perth will mail PAQUA's if you want and they app. half the cost of the Aquapack

You can lock the Joystick & button.
It's an option in the setup (keylock).
Once selected you just hold both the joystick & button at the same time for a couple of seconds to lock & unlock.

I find the midi almost the exact size for a navi, unlike the aquapak which is miles too big.

Found it Paul thanks, in my GT11 it's under "hold key", it had been set to "mark" now I've selected "key lock"

and as you say, hold both buttons for a couple of secs to turn it on and off.

Does this mean though that you can no longer mark a way point?
You know those nasty rocks that fins occasionally find.

I've got the Paqua midi and use with a GT-31, works for me. The best part is I cant forget to close the pack, as you have to close it to wear it

Thanks Paul, I did'nt know about the keylock, since I never push any buttons when I sail, I'll try this next time

We all had a dementia session on the beech today as Paul tried to remember where the setting was for the keylock.
Eventually we got there

Decrep, if you're on a rock finding mission you should go for the washer option (take that any way you like)

Just use an ipod water proof bag. U can get them from mountain design. Never leaks but dont remove the conection cord because that breaks the seal.

Kato, does the armband come from Garmin Fortrex 201? I had lost 2 Fortrex 201 already and only left the armband in hand now......

My 2c worth,

I agree that the aqua pack needs to have the seals flat against each other for the seal to work perfectly with lock tabs fully twisted on. If sealed correctly the pack should be tighter than a fishes bottum

I am a bit like Elmo also but at lower speeds, My GT11, aqua pack and myself have been body slammed time and time again with the worst thing happening being the unit was wrenched from my arm, I found it floating about a meter behind me, no worries.

Oh yeah, being a non gyber, my unit adds flotation to my PDF, meaning it is underwater a lot

I have to give it the thumbs up from me
Cheers GT
