Hi, JP,
RS sails were made to be used on NP X9 masts, which are much smaller in diameter than X3 masts, in the area in which the cams sit. Although there may be a shim behind the cam, it is likely that even if the shim is removed, the cams will not rotate well.
Should you decide to go ahead with the purchase, you will have to resign yourself to an experimental phase of varying downhaul/outhaul/batten tensions to find something that works.
The lower carbon content of the X3 would only become apparent if you are racing.
Hope this helps.

No shims behind RS Racing. This stopped with the RS6 with sails after that having the Ultracams on them. Cam tension is adjusted by batten tension only in the ultracam sails.
Even when the cam tension is released there may still be too much force trying to split the cams due to the bigger diameter of the mast.
So sure you could do it but the sail will work much better and be less stressed with the right mast. Even if you can stretch to the X6 that would be much better than the X3.
Sam.
