Im going to avoid woodies this season because of the reports of the seagulls being poisoned, and a fish kill, does anyone know where the outfill is actually located? you can see the pipe on google maps, but im unsure where and how the outpour is and works, does it just pour out the end of a pipe or is it let out over some distance in a "header".? Whats the level of treatment? is it toxic? is it all lumpy or just a liquid? Ive never seen a "coogee cigar".
Anyone out there work there?

I was not nervous at all, quite the opposite. It really takes me back...... I used to be into bondage, necrophilia and bestiality................ then I realised I was flogging a dead horse.............

I'll be serious. Easty and Stribo are the deviants

The seagull thing is irrelevant I think, they eat rubbish all over the place, there is a tip only a few km away so they can all eat something there and fly back to Woodies for the night to roost (so they do that?... anyway....) and die at a different location to the toxin.

The fish kill can be caused by a bug, like the virus or whatever that killed all the South Oz pilchard schools a few years ago.

I'd be happy to sail there.

I used to do contract work for a local council in QLD and generally the only stuff that gets pumped out is effluent (no lumps). In saying that if there is a heavy rainfall and the pumps cant cope (cos people hook stormwater to sewerage lines), then you may get some over flow. Generally the effluent is pretty dilute by the time it is pumped into the sea although it may be high in nutrients. Sewerage spills generally dont contribute to fish kills. If anything the bream and mullet population will increase as they have more food.
I would certainly sail there if the wind was good.

I think Arancini is right - no one should sail there at all - its far too dangerous and they are certain to catch a fatal disease. And in the interests of public safety this thread should be copied to the kite forums.

(Let me which windy days your all not sailing there please).

Its only dangerous if you get wet

I happen to spend my life working in **.
Colleagues of mine in your fine part of the world are working on the upgrade of Woodman Point Treatment Plant. Current level of treatment is pretty high includes nutrient removal and discharges 4.2km off shore in 20m depth off shore so shouldn't be killing anything.

For those truly sad enough to be interested see here:

and do you want a job?
