Yeah the chopper was over me for a bit when I was passing Swanbourne. Could have easily been any of us doing the downwinder today. I did see what I thought was a very large fish...

Anyone found the clip on the net yet?

hye been
latest issue of windsurfing magazine put a good tip in there.
if its stuck because of sand, get two bricks, and space them around 40cm apart, and put pillows ontop of them. than get your mast and put the middle section between the two bricks, and just step on it so it flexes, but dont step too hard. than rotate, and keep doing it, once you hear the sand cracking, try and twist it apart, an just keep doing untill it comes apart.

there is also another way to do it, if you have two booms, put one boom ontop of the center , and one on the bottom, and get some body help you twist one clock wize and the other anticlockwize

Thanks for that mate, I will go out there and give it a go now :) its my Dad's mast..
I dont have two booms unfortunately, I tried the other method and nothing is budging at all... I might visit some guys at the river and see if I can borrow a boom :p

no worries to stop it happening again, i heard if you get dish detergent on it, and just polish it with that for a while, it helps it slip apart, havent done it my self but i over heard some one talking about it

hmmm
I put some Ezy Glide on it and some INOX, but that hasn't helped either.
maybe some hot soapy water could help me :)

sometimes one boom is enough, put the boom below the joint, clamped really tight, then twist the top section with the boom touching the ground to counter your twisting action, failing that lots of people.

I'm thinking that 2 boom technique will be the one, I need another Boom.
Does anyone work in Midland? or live near Forrestfield??

Edit
It's ok, I'm taking it out to Reg's this afternoon to do it :)
Thanks for all your suggestions guys, most appreciated

Personally I'm not sure about using Inox. i had a couple of masts that wouldn't come apart and we tried inox. We still couldn't get them apart so i kept using them as a one piece till they broke. When i went to cut through and peel away the carbon at the ferule i found the resin had fused or melted itself and the two halves were basically glued together. There was no way they'd ever come apart, and i think the inox might have done something to melt the resin.

Boom method works best. I generally am fine with the one boom though... just get a friendly fellow windsurfer to twist one end and pull a little ......

That doesn't sound too good actually!!!

But it works!!!

wipe your mast inner and outer with a towl or rag then put duck tape around the joint before rigging ,problem solved

i had 5 blokes on each end twisting, 4 booms on each end, stilsons, hot water down the ends with detergent, jumping on the ferrule with the ends suspended on bridcks, and i've come to the conclusion that some masts just don't come apart and a big possibility that the Inox helps glue it together

tis all fixed, and very very simple to get apart :)
block on back end to absorb some shock and keep from damaging mast, big hammer to the block, and off pops the top :D
I was amazed when he did it hey. It's all in the Physics :)
