Hi

I'm going to europe at the end of august and plan to spend 5-7 days in the canary islands for a bit of windsurfing.

anyone had any experience windsurfing over there? I'm thinking maybe Tenerife, but there's also the other islands to consider, not sure on the best location.

I live south of geraldton and I'm an experienced sailor so pretty spoilt for home conditions, just want to get a few sails in at a new location during a family holiday.

North shore of Fuerteventura is pretty good for wave sailing. Base your self in the town of Corralejo and there are many places to go and usually windy at that time of year.

El medano is the place in tenerife..

The wind is stronger on fuerteventura.

Stay in corelejo and drive to cotillo, flag beach or sail the harbour... or you can stay at sotavento which is very german and very windy

You'll need a hire deal that you can drive with for fuerte -

Otherwise the Official test centre on tenerife might be better (if it's open)

I'd second that. I lived there for a year and loved it especially the windsurfing. Only other island I windsurfed on was Fuerteventura. Its windier in Sotavento but ofshore and flat. If you go to Lanzarote Windsurf Paradise is by far the best hire centre

Fuerteventura sounds good, el medano sounds easier without a car though

Just got back from Tenerife yesterday. Definitely my favorite island in the Canaries. And the OTC makes it really easy: www.otc-windsurf.com

Get a copy of DVD "Backwash - the Canary Islands boarding guide" by Big Sexy Pictures (yes, really).

Shows all the spots and what wind direction and what swell - plus plenty of good footage too.

Definitely worth the $$$ if you are going there.

If you can't find one I'll sell my copy, watched it too much and won't be going there any time soon!

I've just been to El medano Tenerife for 6 weeks, went last year too - love it

It's so easy, dont need car, is 5 mins from the airport, the village is right on the beach with all the bars and restaurants, and as Ben says you dont even need to take gear!!

Is always a wave at the Harbour Wall - 2 tacks up wind from the OTC beach, or head up another 2 tacks to Cabezo beach for some jumps. I used all my sails, from 3.7 to 5.2, even borrowing a 3.3 one day! We had waves upto logo + high!!

The Island is also a great place for sight seeing, really diverse, big volcano, more lush in the north/dry in the south, and really good surfing too!!

August windiest month too....

Also if a family holiday, the village is right on the beach, so family can get out of the wind still!!
