Hello everybody.

My name is Richard, i used to sail heaps at the train down at southport. I was the kid that used to get dropped off down there with the trailer by my mom during the school holidays.

Anyway im all grown up now and having not sailed for over a year i bought myself a new board and sail. The board i used to use got wrecked in the sun (dad left it on the trailer...thanks!) and well ive put on about 16kilos since i last sailed so i figured a new sail was in order.

What i was wondering was, where would be the best place to go to after work (i can get out before 5 if im lucky) for a sail with the winds that look like they might be coming through on Tuesday. i Still live on the gold coast but i work in springwood and was wondering if it would be worth me bringing my kit up for a late arvo session?

PS this site looks awesome! Well done guys, and thanks SO much Haircut for putting me on to it!

Hi Richard,
A mate and I plan to go to Victoria Point tomorrow afternoon at about 2pm.

High tide is around 5pm so conditions should be good for sailing until the sun goes down! I'm quite new to the area but have found that I quite like Victora point for southerlies. check it out here http://www.windwanderers.com/website/Locations.html and watch for the green arrows on the Banana Banks graph on seabreeze

Yep i made it here Jason (please correct me if i got your name wrong! I cant remember if it was Jason or Justin...) I just cant wait to get out again!

Knot Board, sounds good mate! Do you reckon there will be a couple of people out there after around 5:15? Thats probably the earliest i could get there and i really dont want to try a new spot by myself! Reckon its worth packing all my kit and bringing it up to work? ....if the wind is good and i get a good 45mins in ill be stoked.

Richard,
The Forecast for today has been downgraded to 15-20 knots, but who knows, the wind could still come up to 25kn later in the afternoon. So I guess bring enough gear to cover a 15-25knots wind range

I have noticed that at Victoria Point the sailors tend to go home a bit earlier than say, wello point or Manly. I think this would be because Victoria Point can be quite a long drive home to Brisbane city.

Don't worry about sailing Victoria Point alone for the first time. I sailed there alone the first time I saw the place, it's really safe. The southerly/south easterly blows on-shore so if you get in trouble you'll only get blown back to a sandy beach. At high tide the whole area is waist deep.

Looks like the southerly change has already started at Banana Banks this morning, should be good today. See you there, we will be in an old white hi-ace van at the southern end of the Park. I'll even throw an extra beer in for ya

Sounds good. Ill be driving a green double cab rodeo, i packed my 5.6 and my 6.2...my only 2 sails worth anything...all the rest are very old. My board is pretty small (97L) but ill head out there anyway, will be good to meet you guys, i have no windsurfing buddies. If nothing else ill know how to get there from work! Hopefully it will pick up a bit.

I CANT WAIT FOR WORK TO FINISH!

Yeah scott i just missed you, but i managed to have a quick chat to your mate who came out before you. Sorry i missed you guys. The first run out to the right wasnt so good but once i got going on the way back i was hammering!

It was a little patchy some of the time but once you got going it was awesome! Well worth lugging my kit to work! I ended up only getting home at 7:30, the drive home felt sooooo long.

Tweed river was awesome, Dave showed up as well, I was practising carve gybes (well, trying to) the whole time. It's been so long since I've been properly planing, I'd almost forgotten what it's like!

Managed to get round and sail out clew first still planing, but always drop off on the rig flip.

Practice, practice...
