I'm certainly no ricardo, but I like this

and definately this

the JP is lighter even though it is bigger, more turny, and more comfy on the ankles due to the more domed deck, and I think it might be a tad faster than the tabou

the tabou slides backwards more predictably, has more nose rocker for waves, and has many footstrap options, and has more flotation in the tail for staying in the footstraps off the plane. great all rounder imho

i have the 99 JP freestyle and had the 97 litre tabou for over 2 years, but was coming to the end of it's life for the way i was treating it

the tabou 3s I had was a 2006 model and had a different paint job but the same shape. i don't think anything has changed in the last 2 years as the shape was popular with the euros

the 2008 JP's are significantly lighter but maybe you're unlikely to find a cheap 2008 one

a s/h fanatic skate should be good. there were a lot kicking around a couple of years back

Fanatic Skate 2002 -2005

JP Freestyle 2006 -2008

Tabou freestyle 2006 - 2008

starboard freesex 2004

starboard trance 2005

lots and lots of freestyle-wave combos kicking about here in SE QLD so many will be coming up for sale S/H over next 6-12 months as many folk update. As freestyle is a bit of a specialist genre you're probably more likely to find a freestyle-wave combo second hand. The dedicated freestyle definitely helps make learning the moves easier and planes that little bit earlier, but any freestyle/freestyle-wave board with soft rails down to the tail and decent width with a small sub 25cm fin will be suitable for freestyle

my 82 litre JP real world wave has soft rails all the way and is 58cm wide @ about 5.5kg, and spins/slides no probs at all for a wave board. this is easily a high wind freestyle board

for $1500 have a look around the Sydney shops, there is a good chance you might pick up a brand new board that is last years model. But for that you will get a very good second board.

I had a RRD Twin Tip for a while, great board, easy to ride and early plaining. Lots of fun.
