i have a 2010 falcon, 102l, i sold it to a guy for 550 with a board bag and 37select fin, about 6mths before i bought it from shop for 1200, it had damage on the rail, paint was worn off and some cracks, i told him and showed him, i told him it needs to be professionally repaired and too take it too the shop, we got to talking, his an old windsurfer come back to the sport after a ten yr absence, he tells me, he thinks he can fix the board himself, i tell him, i wouldnt, i would take it to the shop, but i also tell him, that plenty of people fix there own stuff, and it doesnt look to hard if you know what youre doing, anywhoooo, he buys board, goes home and trys to fix the rail himself, he calls me later that night, he tells me, he tried to fix the rail, but its got worse and he wants his money back......i tell him, ok, but now some friends are telling me, no way, i dont want to rip anyone off, i told him it was damaged, needed to be fixed by a pro, i actually took a hundred off agreed price for the repair, again, i dont really know what the right thing too do is, i dont wanna make him feel disapointed or ripped off, but now he has done more damage, should i give back money, or is it his board now?, i bought an 800 dollar mast, broke third time, i rang the guy, pffffff, tough titties he told me, i bought a boom, never used it, took it too the shop to trade in, they told me, pffffff, its broken and snapped it in front of me, i told that guy about that, he said he was unaware it was damaged, but thats the risk you take at that price, pfffffff, i thought, whatever! but i didnt hide the damage from the guy who bought my board, i told him, showed him, and he bought it, ha, im stressing, ill give back the money, buit im interested to hear what people would do, thanks

It was a similar situation for me Milsy and my Tabou Rocket 135. It was damaged. The seller showed me the damage. We agreed on a price or rather swap.

The difference is once in my possession I took the board to a repair shop and they fixed it for an agreed amount. Since then its been fine.

You did not rip him off in any way. You showed the damage and he was aware of it. The price reflected the state of the board. He stuffed up the repair. Its his problem.

Perhaps you could consider paying him back so your relations are okay with him and then getting the board professionally repaired. PM me if you want to know someone that could do it. It could be worth more if in good condition.

I would be inclined to say that its his issue now.
If you really feel some form of guilt about it (and I wouldnt), say you will take the board back, but he has to compensate you for the "additional damage" caused by his botched repair. You may only get $400 for the board now because he has made it worse.

All sales are final, no guarantees, no refunds... He was well informed in advance - you don't have to feel guilty

You were fair.
You showed the buyer the damage, you recommended a professional repair, you discounted the board.
The buyer purchased the board in full knowledge that it was damaged.
He then ignored your advice and attempted a repair himself.
You are under no obligation to take the board back or refund his money.

You are also an honest and compassionate person and knowing that this person is unhappy you want to make things right. At the same time you do not want to disadvantage yourself, and you want to sell this board. You could examine the board, guess how much it has been devalued (if any) and offer a reduced refund.

make sure you don't start a career as car salesman , or any sales...

hey, ha, thats some great advice, thanks, everything i said is true, the buyer was a good bloke and i am sorry about all this for him, yeah, ill give refund, but he was taking board to shop tis morning and going to talk to them and then let me know what he wants to do, i havent heard yet, but again ill just do what he wants, ill have too look at what he done as well, ha, i hate selling ****, thanks for the feed back, ill post the conclusion................it looks like its gunna be me, getting kicked in nuts..............plus i already spent his money on new stuff..................arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Regardless of what is right or wrong, or what will hold up in court etc, you did what sounds like was in your nature and will keep you resting peacefully each night. When it comes down to it only you have to live with your decision and as long as you are ok with it then all good.

Not sure I would have been so generous mind you.

what a shame he didnt buy my board, 100l Fanatic Skate, no real damage except for a couple of dings, wouldve got him on the water for $250~!!
