As an extension to a another thread running at the momement.

I have changed from seat to waist harness this season (for all but light wind BAFing) and I was just wondering what length lines most people are using - I'm using 24" although i'm really enjoying the new found freeness, they seem a tad long! and I have got my boom set as high as I'm comfortable with

What sort of sailing are you doing?

For me, long is good. I use 24" on my wave sails. I'm 6'1" (using waist harness) I find longer lines keep the sail nice and upright, giving me plenty of power and still allows me to keep my weight over the board. For my race sails, I use 26" and 27", this allows me to hang out more (weight off the board), while keeping the rig up-right for the power...

5'9", 20-22 inch, waist harness.

Even with such short lines I often hit the water with my body (specially in waves), can't really see the point of anything longer...

PW

I'm 6', mainly sailing flat to heavy chop - but as I said I'm starting to get into loose B&J sailing, when conditions are there. Maybe I need to concentrate on a much more upright stance.

Sails from 7.6 and up i use 28" lines with a seat harness. Sails from 6.6 down I use 26" lines with seat.
On wave sails I just use 26" with waist harness. Im not tall, just average I guess.
Mates use 24" to 26" mainly.

Longer the better as it keeps your rig up right. You just have to remember to lift your bum over chop at times

MAX is special imaginary comrade... he sail with me everytime for keeping of company
Sometimes he for saying many silly things, like
"Why for you not try and do Goiter or 360 off this wave"
I not knowing why but i always listen to him and going. 'Ok for certain I try' even though I not know how for doing or sometimes even what he meaning
MAX has cost me many broken equipment and much loss of beach respects as I looking like kook all the time swiming after gear and getting washing of the falls.
This is lesson for learning like you Australian say 'walking before running' yar ?

26inch lines.

Longer lines i find are better because they allow you to move around more while still hooked in. say when going over white water or jumping. also when jumping in the harness. with short lines i find you tend to break booms but with longer lines i haven't even bent one.

short lines like 20 inches feel really stable and solid but you just don't have enough movement.. well thats what i find

Comrade Dav
I having the boom set to about 2 fist widths from top of cut out.
I have been tolding this is quite low for tall person but I like having boom around abouts chest height not shoulder height, unlike many others.
This also working of the good when I sail with shorter comrades who wanting to trying of gear... easy step on step off with no rig adjustingments of the required.
Maybe this Russian leader MAX you speak of is same person as my imaginary comrade.. he too was crazy for certain... I thinking maybe you missing of the R in his name.
My friend MAX his third naming is also of having the R
His last name is soul.
Often after doing things he telling me for doing and I breaking of gear or pride I using of his full name for addressing of him with all of his names like as follows:
Max
U
R
Soul - Why for you telling of me for doing this... I must be crazy for sure listen to you again.

As you can see DavMen its personal preference my brother likes them short about 22 and i like em a bit longer at 24. Go buy a shorter pair and try them there not overly expensive and keep the others as spares.

Kremlin i think you need a new imaginary friend this one (MAX) sounds like he's costing you a fortune in broken gear, and the kook factor you cant allow that to be happening

OR... relax, extend your arms (rake the sail back less) and enjoy the extra power... Current cost = $0

Yep! personal pref, thats seems to be the message I'm decyphering from the various posts - I'll stick with what I've got and go for Pug's $0 variation (I'm cheap).

Thanks all
