What can be done and what is a good thing to do are two different things. Many bad experiences have taught me that long stiff masts and small sails are a really bad combination. This is: small sails work infinitely better on the smaller softer masts they were designed for. It really does make a huge difference to your sailing experience!

My sailworks 5m rigs on a 430.My 4.2 on a 400. I used to rig the 4.2m on the 430 for ages and hated it.It wouldn't twist off, felt powerless down low and no control up high. I thought it was a crappy sail until I used the right mast -400 .The 400 is softer than the 430 due to its length .Its now my favourite sail.

just use what you got for now, i wouldn't spend any money buying sails compatible for that mast unless you get them for pretty much free.

you probably noticed that my 5.7 rig was much lighter was compared to the 5.7 you got, and part of that is down to the 400 rdm that was in it. my 5.6s-1 rig is even lighter still, and it makes sailing so much easier it's light and day. so save your $$ and get a 400 rdm, it is the only mast you will need at your weight, and there are a plethora of cheap wave sails which will rig perfect on a 400rdm once you have one. about $300 will get you a decent second hand one. the mast is the most important part of your rig, so don't compromise on it if at all possible.

for queensland conditions one decent rig in the 5.2 - 5.7 range will probably get you out on 80% of the windy days we got. so don't be tricked into buying heaps of so-so gear, none of which is really great.

that would be perfect if it wasn't a maui sails mast. they are aren't really compatible with many other brands. look for an ezzy, severne, loft, north 400 rdm that's minimum 75% carbon

p.s. you gonna sail today? looks like the wind might just get there.
