sat & sun arvo at miami beach - anyone?

hey gold coast lads, I sailed last sat on a s/e and sunday n/e off Miami beach, Im heading there again this weekend, would be good to maybe see 1 more windsurfer out there! last sat there was 2 kiters plus me, sunday, with a 15kn plus wind I was the only one on this beach enjoying the seabreeze, , anyways this weekend Ill be there surfing in the morning, if the forecast n/e has enough guts in it ill rig up and hit the waves. grass rigging, showers, easy carparking for those unfamiliar.

I park towards the northern end of Miami beach, basically where it turns into Nobby's beach.

Hey Md,

would gladly join you down at Miami on Sunday, but with the Coollangatta Gold Iron man event being held along that stretch of coast I will probably sail up at the Sheraton Mirage at Main Beach (north of Southport Surf Club) Maybe I will see you there?

Good call on that location md74,

Four of us were out there enjoying the sun and waves, good to sail something a bit more sideshore than Kirra normally is. What a great spot

I counted 35 kites coming through on a big downwinder, most of them were fine but I did have a run-in with one guy... there's always one bad apple isn't there?

Apart from that it was a fantastic day, I count that first run as my best session in the waves yet

Where are people going to tomorrow? Keen to give it another bash without time commitments.

Great afternoon session down there! nice choice MD! Too good a spot to sail alone

I'm probably going to give the Sheraton Mirage a go tomorrow but am always open to other suggestions- If the majority rules I'm quite happy to head back down to Nobbies

hey lads, what an awesome arvo! im concerned tommorrow over the coolangatta gold event and how much that will disturb Nobbys/miami???

It starts at 8am and they race from surfers to greenmount and back!

so, we either dont give a **** and just do our thing, or go to marina Mirage.

at this stage im keener for Miami again, but, could be swayed, Im going surfing at the same place where we sailed today, 50m to the north, I will see how this race is going and if I think it is an issue to sail there, I will head up to marina Mirage.

my mobile is 0410 608607, feel free to txt or call me around midday or when the wind is up.

by the way, Im sore as hell!!

by the way nebbian, I think the guy you had the tangle with was the guy launching from the beach there, not one of the downwinders, which by the way for any kiters reading looked pretty dang impressive!

just read this in the kiting forum:

Cooly Gold will be held on Sunday , the buoys will be 350mts offshore,race begins at 9am at cooly and should be to Surfers and back down to Burleigh by 11am, then they run leg will be up the beach which shouldnt interfere unless you bodydrag through the soft sand again.

kind of makes it sound fine for miami to me

look at your refidex, northern end of Marine Parade Miami, the car park is basically right on the beach esplanade, we park opposite a building named "Nobby's Outlook" a 2 storey holiday unit complex, its almost directly underneath the old Magic Mountain if you know that landmark.

Its maybe 2-3k south of the Casino, give me a call if confused!

There I was, getting my sail round preparing for a waterstart, and I hear this massive YEEEEEEHHAAAAA!! I looked around, and all I could see was the bottom of md74's board framed against the sky...

That was probaply the whipeout of my life. i was suprised and happy that me and my gear did not breake.
I am still down here partying through the night. so check out miami and if its good stay there. hope the wind shifts a bit to ne.
looking forward for another nice session out there.

well, sunday arvo is now gone, it never really kicked in, but was great to see everyone there!

Im sure everyone still had a fun day with the few blasts and jumps they got in,
its just awesome to "play" with others!

catch you all next time it blows, hopefully we will get that 2-5 knots more that we needed. Im sure everyone who sailed at Miami saw its great potential, we just need the wind now....

hey Dan, if you read this, dont be discouraged mate! we all struggled with that dumping shorebreak yesterday! once the wind is there you will love it like the rest of us, and a few of us had to do the long beach walk, I think I had the longest, almost from the Miami surfclub flags way down the beach!

Thanks MD74, It was great to actually try at last - been wanting to for a while! Having others there gave me courage to finally make that first step. I'm definatley hungry for more, see you there when the wind is up!

no probs dan, you will only get support from us all, mate the only issue was the dang wind was just not enough! if it was, you would have launched easy as, and once past the sets its pretty easy sailing, and a truckload of fun, 1 run out there equals about 50 at the train!
