Ive got chrissy off work and I'm hoping to get a bit of sailing in. is there and wavesailing to speak of in the byron bay area?

Aldo, I'm contemplating a move to Cairns for a few months next year and wonder if anyone can give me some advice on places/times to sail, no-go seasons/times and if there are any windsurfing shops in the area.

best time for cairns is winter plenty of wind. u can sail at the beach or out at green island...very very windy for 9 months of the year. just check the graphs in winter.

after May you wont have to worry about stingers as they would have packed their bags by then.

no shops any more everyone gets their gear from down south or across west.

times to sail...normally arvo when the wind kicks in at the beach or at green u can sail all day and all night if you want the wind doesnt stop out there.

If you are in Cairns make sure you take a trip up to lake Tineroo on the Tablelands, local weather conditions make for some very good sailing at times. You will meet some great senior sailors.Best place to launch is at the Sailing club acess via Kari.I had a session up there a month or so back when it blew 20+ for days.
