This question will have some of the speed guys on here twitchin, like in that 7 Minute Abs scene of the 'Something about Mary' movie.

I know what you mean about rigging up race sails though :)

I think you should try and figure out why the cams don't fit. It could be the wrong mast in which case even removing the cams the sail would have a bad shape, or you are not using the right technique. Did you give it 1/2 downhaul, then pull the outhaul as tight as possible, then slacken all downhaul, press the cams in and re- apply full downhaul? If you don't do exactly like this you won't be able to fit the cams.

^^also make sure your mast goes on top of the battens when inserting the mast into the sleeve.
On top, so as when you reach through the cam zips your are pushing the battens down and rolling the cams under and onto the mast.

I don't mean to be offensive but if you have to ask if you can remove cams from a cammed sail then I would suggest a cammed sail has no benefit to you and that you would be much better off in everyway with a no cam free ride sail.

Fair enough if you have been given a sail, it is your only option and you just want to get on the water, but any main brand no cam free ride sail from the last 5 years would, I suspect, suit you much better than struggling with a cammed sail.
