I remember the first year I ever entered.I'd done my first ever mural 3.3m x 7m .I'd never painted anything bigger than 50 x 60cms so it would have been a challenge even if I was healthy but I was disabled at the time.
I couldn't use my right arm much ( my painting arm) as I'd get a headache so I painted it 95% LHanded .Wrecked myself on the last day using my RH but it didn't matter as it was done..
I think that's why I won but I wasn't expecting to win.I wasn't even going to go to the awards as I was too crook.Anyway I won and was the first called up..I was like a goldfish standing there with its mouth opening & closing..I muttered thanks and scrurried off..

You must suffer for your art
Michelangelo was imprisoned on a scaffold under the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The Pope wouldn't let him down until he finished. They used to poke food up to him on a stick. They had another stick to prod him with. "Paint you bastard" they said as they took turns prodding him.
He didn't get a business award either. He was too slow.
Just as a matter of curiosity, do you apply any anti graffiti finish to your murals or is it unnecessary in your neck of the woods?
Bugger suffering the old way.. although sometimes I wonder...

The mural was created as part of a community scheme and they put a finish on it.They also clean any graffitti off if necessary.
There hasn't been that much of a problem as they involved some of the kids at risk in the project and I think there is some respect for walls with murals..Also one of the organisers said that one of the local heavies had taken it upon himself to look after the murals and heaven help anyone who marked them!

( that was a few years ago though & I think they have a little bit of graffitti on some of the murals these days). The idea was to make Kurri special and bring tourists in so I think maybe there is a bit of local pride.
The only problem I have had has been some kid getting a texta and making one of the bullocks pee.

.Easy enough to clean off..
This September is mural month so is a good time to go and have a mural tour - they include morning tea in the park before hand + some local shopping discount vouchers all for $5 per person
