Hi there
on the weekend I had a little fight with my sail and kneed it ,accidently of course. Now it has a whole in the bottom section and since it is a little old-2000 I think- I'm looking at getting something new second hand. Am looking for a 6.5 or thereabouts and a freeride sail. Was offered a 2010 loft for $600 delivered. Would that be a good buy? I only just started again and getting only now to hook in and stating on the straps. My board is a jp 144 freeride Thanks

What model is it?
What mast do you have?

At your level (or what you imply by your post) you should be looking for a power wave sail or freestyle sail with lots of X-ply, particularly in the lower section, to take the beating it will get as you learn stuff.

Stay away particularly from freeride / race sail with cams

the mast is a 460 gun and the sail is an O2 6.5.

I would look at good second hand sails between 250-300 dollars although im a scroodge mcduck !!! This way you wont feel that bad if you knee it.

In sayn that if your going out far its better to have reliability and a good sail.

The Loft O2 is a good bet as the older ones were very reinforced and so I imagine the new ones are too.

I seem to remember somebody said Loft sails set well on Gun masts?

However -

They recommend an RDM so make sure an SDM won't be too tight in the sleeve - doubt it will be an issue but you never know

And you said 2010 6.5m? The 2010 is a 6.6 so make sure you are getting what you asked for...

I'm not aware of any sail that does not set on an SDM - just some of them can be tight enough to be a real pain. I had that with a Simmer many years ago.... but that may just have been a case of them swinging too far one way and making a really tight luff tube, when most people were changing to RDM's in Hawaii (where they are designed / tested) and maybe they were never tested on a SDM.
I only suggested it as the Loft literature says ideal is RDM - if getting it froma shop I'd aks if they have set on on and SDM and it worked.

For a new 2010 at $600 delivered, I'd jump at it!
