Hey everyone i am up grading my gear got new board and sail and now need a mast. Looking for something to go with my Neil Pride Zone 5.2 which would be best a new or second hand. Do want to spend over 350 but would prefer less so what would be the best mast to look at for a reasonable price that will last. Cheers Brodie

Your going to need a NP mast, NP sails need an NP mast to suit there specific bend characteristics

i think an X6 would be good, last a while and is lighter than the X3

Get a new one , you dont know what kind of life the used one has had it could break on you at anytime.

If you dont wanna spend that much get an X3.

Finally , go and see you local shop and have a chat to them.

^^^What he said!

Don't buy secondhand, I did a couple of years ago, 90% carbon, but had obviously had made contact with a nose of a board hard, and only lasted 4 sessions with no warranty!

I've also broken a new mast (KA), and it was replaced under warranty, no probs.

Definitely go the new, unless whoever you buy it off gives you a money back guarantee!

I've got a NP X9 wave 400 for sale. Its tough, light (100%c) and the right curve.
PM me if you like. The 5.2 might prefer a 430 though.

4 years out of a second mast and your complaining....

If your going to buy a second hand one buy a skinny and just check for cracks along the feral

my masts are second hand and I'm still amazed they are in one piece

You need to going pretty hard or make a lot of bad mistakes to snap a skinny mast especially a powerex mast

4 Sessions not seasons

Brodie, I'd also suggest sticking with a NP mast, unless you can find another brand with the same bend curve, etc. There was a write up in one of the popular windsurfing mag's a while back which compared most of the major mast brands, which might shed some light of which would suit your sail. Best thing would be to chat to the guys at SHQ.

brodie i think buying a 2nd hand mast is so so ok as long as you buy it from close friend and more or less inspect for cracks especially the ferrule and importantly bottom part which tend to chip away inside after a couple of seasons...an x6 is a bit expensive compared to the x3 obviously but in hi-winds would you really be bothered by the weight when on a plane

I would normally stay away from used. But having said that I bought three X9 Wave masts from a sponsored sailor who I knew. Apart from being brilliant masts they have been rock solid for the last 3 years.

It may be worthwhile looking into the one from Not Wal, the 400 is the tight size for a 5.2m.

PS hope I haven't jinxed myself now...

Speaking of Fibreglass masts, I need to build a TV aerial tower for the roof of the house as we have the sh1tiest reception in Sydney, and I thought an old kilwell or something would be the go. Does anyone on the Northern beaches have an old glass mast in the roof of the garage or spotted one on a council clean up?
