hi,
was sailing lano on sunday and managed to snap my 4m powerex RDM on one of the smallest wipeouts of the day... turns out there not so strong after all!!!
anyway, after a most unpleasent swim in (lost my sail coming through hole in the wall) I got in. yeh!
turns out the mast snapped only about 20cm down from the top of the bottom section. Since the ferrule is in the top section, I figure I can cut the broken section off with a hack saw and, horray, a new 375! So, the new bottom section would be about 25cm shorter than before.
Does anyone know if the bottom section of the masts are re-inforced to take the ferrule or if the tubing is the same throughout the bottom section???
I know there is very little tapering in the bottom section because the ferrule fits almost as snuggly into the bottom as it does to the top, but...
I am not so keen to hacksaw it and have it snap straight away. Swimming sucks!
If anyone knows the construction well enough the info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Simon.

dude that sux!!!
when did the warranty run out??
you would be able to see if there was extra reinforcing where the ferule went in. most masts dont cos it effects the mast curve.
i'll drop by and check it simmo.

I've had a normal mast that had been cut down from 460 to a 430. It has lasted many a wipeout and is still going strong after 4 years. Dont know if there are any construction differences between the two types of masts.
P.S. I would go with the warranty option first!
