On the north side of Sydney about the only place that works in N or NW is Palm Beach on the Pittwater side. usually gusty too but hey, after the crap weather and wind we have had lately it will be nice to see the sun and some warmish wind for a change.
Canton Beach up the central coast is good for those directions too, but you will need a weed fin.
Not sure of the south side, someone will comment Im sure.

there are a few spots on Lake Macquarie and also a good spot at Nelson Bay.

Foreshore Road on the way to La Perouse. Sailing on the NE side of the runway. You will see all the cars parked on the side of the road. Rigging area is not so good - either on the side of the road or on the sand.

The run is a lot shorter than you get in a NE at Kyemagh, but the water is nice and flat.

Just don't leave the beaten track when walking from the road to the beach, or you could get more then you came for.

LaPerouse OK, Pittwater gusty on those kinda winds.

Kurnell is by far the best, the wind has time to become less gusty when it gets there theres also always a few people on the water too (kites and windsurfers).

Has anyone sailed boat harbour (northern most part of cronulla beach) in a westerly? I ve heard it can be quite good there in a westerly and cos you can drive on the beach it would be easy launching! Im thinking of trying it out on monday or even sunday anyone keen?

You can drive most of the way by 2wd car but then you have to walk a bit further to get to the beach 4wd is best. PM me your number if your keen to go will go either sunday or monday.

Kurnell definitely a good venue to go to. Cheers for the advice. Was averaging 12 knots when I got there. Put up the 6.9m. then (as the graphs prove) the wind picked up and well, lets face it I was definitely over powered for a while. Time to down-size I thought. Put up my 5.5m about 3pm. Unfortunately my luck wained as the wind dropped too. And moved to a more NNE direction. Infact I've just got home and checked the graphs and sure enough the wind dropped right off about 4pm to 5pm.

Well at least I can recommend Kurnell. It isn't a secret venue, you just need to drive a bit further to get there and be prepared to watch those wind direction and speed changes.

Only one thing... wear boots. Rabs was 'stung' by something small and painful and it drew blood on his foot. Stingray? Weaver Fish? Barracuda?

Kyeemagh was good too.

Yep can definitely recommend Kurnell as well in a N / NW. Was good yesterday although gets fairly crowded with kites and watch out for the things on the bottom - had to go to the chemist y'day when I got back as this unknown thing stung the crap out of me. Probably weaver fish so boots prob best advice...

It was Sam and I out yesterday on Formula gear. I was using an 9.8m with a X6, 75% carbon mast. (Touch wood, but no chance of breaking and cheap).

Really nice days sailing. More like summer than summer if you catch my drift....
Formula is not expensive if you buy right and appreciate how much TOW you get.
The days of sitting on the beach will be a distant memory.

Yeah my wife and I rocked up to Palm Beach Pittwater around 2pm and there were at least 20 to 30 boards around. It was nice to see so many people. It was good to get a bit of sun and soak up the warmth and chat to some people. We headed back to Narrabeen Lake afterwards and it was calm there but there were a few people out and a guy on an old windsurfer (original one) was going quite well.

Palm Beach doesn't seem to be a great spot on a northerly so perhaps going over to the central coast would be better?
