Being self-employed in a sevice industry with client appointments is a way to have flexible hours, so I get to sail a lot, re: pay is dependent on the skills, quals and demand for them.

I think the guys who get to sail most here in Melbourne are in construction... start at 7am, finish at 3pm, head to the beach for the seabreeze.

I work in an office, don;t get to the beach until after 6. However, it does mean that every couple of years I quit and go windsurfing for six months at a time...

I'm a business analyst; read "slave to the wage". It does pay well, but I don't get to use my toys nearly as often as I want.

Worst still is from my office I can see the water.

Shift worker (outdoors). Great when the wind matches the roster. Tragic when you have to watch others out or wind being wasted

I always wondered if you could sail on Lake BBG . I guess that answers it.
I thought it would be nice to cruise past in the schooner and let the locals know that they are not the only ones allowed to have an easy life.
is it from BS coming from nearby buildings, or airborne pollutants?

I was only thinking about this topic today. Wind came in 20 knts plus around lunchtime. I snuck off from work at 2.00 thinking I would be sailing out there by myself and there were as many guys out as on a weekend. Productivity in a windsurfing town must go shyte on windy days! No kites though - too strong

Firey - Two 10hr day shifts followed by two 14hr night shifts followed by 4 days off in between. Can sail before work on night shifts and even squeeze a sail in after days in summer....then of course make the most of your days off....

I'm enquiring about a job with the Government, it pays fortnightly only about $400 but the good thing is you dont have to go to work. Every now and then you have to go into the office but there's one in every major town or suburb most of the offices are called centre link, lots of other people with half the qualifications I have are applying for this job right now I best get my application in soon!

Its just a temporary thing, it happens every so often. Generally its not a problem, but the wind isn't exactly fantastic

Ah, you must be referring to the "Government Windsurfing Programme". There is a similar programme for non-sailors, called "Drink-As-You-Earn"...

Actually the hours are pretty harsh and inflexible - they require you to show up for work on one particular morning every fortnight, even if the wind is blowing that day.

They're b@$t@rd$ to work for; sometimes you have to stand - not sit, mind you, but stand - and wait for up to 30 minutes, in order to earn the $450 a fortnight which is yours by right.

BTW, Krusty, good luck with your application. I hear that what they value most in an employee is loyalty -- if you start moonlighting with another employer, they'll drop you like a hot potato.
