Just had this happen to me a few months ago. Here's a solution that worked for me:

Lightly epoxy the insert during installation, then work the screw in & out before epoxy cures.
Put something like Vaseline on the threads of the screw and the insert to stop any epoxy from sticking. Even if it does get on the threads while you are epoxying (is that a word?) it in, it will just crack off after it has cured. You can even leave the screw in the plug while it cures if you want to help position the plug. I've done a similar thing with a boat recently.
