hi guys, i live on a small island in thailand. Being to only windsurfer on the island leaves me with no teacher and no fellow sailors to copy from. every new step takes me longer than expected cause youtube is my only way of learning the tecnique properly. I 've just finally got to gybe properly and at a proper speed. now I have small chops breaking onthe reef 60 meters from the beach, with a side shore wind. Im already trying to hit he chop as fast as i can pulling up my back leg under my ass (as i red on some magazine) but I'm actually gambling.
so if some of you could ive some advice (for exemple on which angle I have to keep with the wind while hitting the wave) iI would be reallly thankfull
bye filippo

look, son I learnt to jump before I could jibe son. And i still cant jibe. Anyway you dont need big ramps to do good jumps like 2m, 4 m waves ect..you can do them in nothing, 0. The best way is to try a chop hop on flat water first thats how i learnt. But if you do try some of ya first jumps on some chop. This is what ya do first. So your on a plane your flying along and about to come up to ya first ramp. What ya do is when you hit the ramp is aim the board into the wind and use the lift from the wind. What i find is its not only the size of the ramp that makes a good jump its how much speed and wind under ya board you can get to lift ya board up. so remember to do the twist as you jump and aim into the wind. i try and aim allmost right into the wind sometimes if there is no chop.

another tip try to feel the speed of ya board dont try and go for a mass jump at first just a smooth jump will allways get ya higher

trying to go for a mass jump first you will end up stacking like i do all the time

here is 3 tips once ya get to planning speed and ya about to hit the waves or jump on smooth flat water

1. you first have to do a ollie on the board

2 turn the board into the wind

3. lift the board up with ya nees

and your away flying in the air but remember dont go too hard at first

a good jump is a smooth jump i have had some of my best air time when i have hardly tired to jump on me trusty jp excite, 120 L board

if ya dont know what a ollie is, google skate board ollie

If ya cant get air born, son next time ya try it come back and tell me, son

konas windsurfing jump tips allways get ya in the air, son[:D

Kona's pretty right I think.

Technique is more important than effort for sure.

You jump by extending you back leg. i.e You push the back of the board into the water.
You have to time it so you push it into the trough just in front of the chop. When you get it right its like hitting a tennis ball on the sweet spot. It seems effortless.

When you get the hang of hitting the sweet spot try it at speed.

I'd suggest researching jem hall info on the web, this should help a great deal in answering some of the finer detail questions you may have. When I started jumpin and gybin it was trial and error, these days the instructional stuff found on the web is reasonably good and should help you get some air in no time
