Is there a different stance /sailing style needed whether you sail in a seat or waist harness for bump & jump? It seems most people use waist. Why's that?

easier to get in and out of the harness lines is the main reason for bump & jump / freestyle..... looks better and can be very comfortable could the some other reasons. Cheers

I'm a rare seat harness user that attempted the change but never liked it. Personally at 90+kg I find the seat harness really suits my style of sailing where I enjoy being close to overpowered rather then using the smallest sail possible that will get me planning. I can really take advantage of my extra weight by sitting into the harness rather that the straight body "7" shape that most use with the waist harness.

At normal power my stance seems fairly similar to waist harness users but when extremely overpowered I sit butt down, knees bent, elbows bent and pointed down with face close to boom which allows me to hold down an enormous amount of sail.

For me.
Disadvantage: It is harder to get hooked in and out (although easy to get used to). Arguably doesn't look as cool.
Advantage: Very stable locked in feel. Easy to load up the mast foot resulting in early planning, easy upwind and holds nose down in the chop. Zero pressure on the gut.

Thats what Ive found.I like the seat harness when it blows as I can use my weight & sit into it.. what do you do in a waist harness just brute strength?
Ive got a demo waist harness to try out so it will be interesting to compare. The new waist harnesses are certainly impressive with comfort & fit ( off the water).
I dont think Ive ever used it to hold the nose down et****his load the mast foot technique wasn't around ( or Id never heard of it ) when I was sailing (90's).

verdicts in..Ill stick to the seat harness. The waist is better for gusty & light conditions as you can unhook /hook in easier but being a lightweight I find the seat gives me more power as I can use my weight & I go upwind better + the B waist harness rides up which is annoying..great I can save $ !

I sailed for the first time with a seat harness on Tuesday morning at Inverloch. Started off on a 6.6m with a 111L Futura. If you remember what Tuesday was like, you'll understand what a feat this was! And I'm 78kgs.

Definitely felt more controlled, and easier to keep the board flat. As the wind came up to high 20s, with some big gusts, I still managed to keep things under control - even after a tailwalk that would have usually catapaulted me.

I didn't find hooking in/out any harder at all after lengthening my lines.

As the wind got stronger and the gusts bigger, I changed to an 85L FSW with a 4.2m sail. On reflection, a waist harness probably would have been better. The smaller volume board together with tidal chop and some big holes in the wind meant hooking in and out while keeping stable was a challenge in the seat - and there was lots of hooking in and out going on!

Re difference in stance, I've got to say I felt more upright and less under the boom with the seat harness. But the biggest benefit was that it saved my lower ribs and intercostals from the usual punishing they get from the waist harness.

Don't know whether any of that helps!

Interesting..I think I tend to sit more in a seat harness especialy when the wind picks up..re hooking & unhooking in gusty conditions in chop I think the waist would be easier.Thats the main reason I decided to try one .Ive got adjustable harness lines now so I think that will help in those conditions as Ill just extend them to make the hooking & unhooking easier.
