hi,
i have a problem with the monofilm of my wave sail.
having used it one season in gero, the non-reinforced monofilm is craking everywhere.
is it normal or is my sail made of cheap material.
thanks for your comments
marc-a.

can be. some monofilm is not as good as others in UV protection. Gaastra said they got a bad lot ~3 years ago(and my tushy of that vintage seemed to come from the same supplier as it aged much worse than others that I had which were years older) but generally it is proportional to the uv exposure. X-ply has the laminate stuck together with a uv blocking adheasive, so the polyethylene on each side only gets half the exposure.

I bought a Neil Pryde V6 in 1999.
To this day it looks new even though it has been sailed hard. I sold it a while ago and i still cant believe it is still alive.

Well da DOG has to be positioned with in da vehicle differently bro.

If it continues to sit on you sails rub its nose hard on the cracked sharp monofilm untill some blood is evident or Pull a batten out and flogg it.

If the behaviour continues and it sits on your sails being a smart ass,
On da way home yell and screem at it lock da breakes up and smash it into da cargo barrier. In most cases they will find another spot to sit.

A sail will only last for one season if its left out in the sun lots - some good tips are:
1) when not sailing either cover it, put it in the shade or derig. When the sail is horizontal its getting huge amounts more UV then when being sailed when its roughly vertical. Nothing will kill a sail quicker than leaving it to bake in the sun.
2) buy second sails from eskimoes
3) only sail in winter fronts

Silver tape will fix the cracks.
