Try GIO. I have cover anywhere in Oz and NZ for $20000 worth of kit.

I think Suncorp also cover the same. I think Suncorp bought GIO's home insurance business, which explains why they are essentially the same.

I think above a certain value you have to nominate each item. If I recall correctly, it's covered if stolen from a locked van, but I am not sure if it is covered if not locked away. I think that if the van gets stolen then it doesn't cover you either, but expects your car insurance to cover it.

Of course, read the policy info or talk to them about it.

errr.... did you say sports gear or windsurfing gear to the insurance companies? None of them at all would cover my WS gear a couple of years ago as it is boating stuff according to them.... but the boating insurance mobs won't cover it.

my GIO insurance covers sailboards, kept in the garage....don't think it will cover them if taxed out the van.

Mongrels I rang (HBF, SGIO, QBE, Cuna Mutual) wouldn't even cover it in a locked garage!

But would cover a $10K mountainbike unsecured on a back verandah.... go figure.

In my case, it is definitely windsurfing gear as I nominated certain items to be covered specifically. I think the policy refers to sailboard equipment, and it is a policy that covers more than their standard policy. I think the cover for items that aren't nominated is relatively small.

CGU will cover all contents inc. sports gear at home and anywhere in Australia under their "blue ribbon" home contents policy. Don't need to specify what gear, but only covers up to a max of $2500 per item. Sports gear not covered whilst in use, but covered for theft, fell off roof of car, maybe even run over by car, etc.

I had so much negative feedback I eventually created my own anti theft device. I created a false wall in the back of the garage so it look slike there is just household **** piled up at the back and in the dark you can't see anything of value.

I did that too in my garage, except for the false wall bit
