I have three sails that only have eyelets in the clew and they are a pain in the but with adjustable out haul system.Can someone who has had anything to do with them advise me weather i need to buy one for each sail or are they simple to swap from one sail to another?

I used one of those years ago and I found it wasn't much good. The outhaul pulls one side harder than the other and it doesn't stay straight. The outhaul line rubs against the plastic discs and the fair lead is bad.

The pros usually just run a slippery line through the eyelet. You have two lines going through the clew eyelet and they tend to interfere with each other. However, if you use small diameter (2.5 to 3mm?) sheathless braided core they run well.

I'm with Nebbian on this, although NotWal has a point in that the pulley does not remain straight, but this is slight only, because as the clew of the sail flops from side to side on each tack, the "straightness" does not really matter.

Also, when I run the outhaul rope onto each side of the pulley, I do so with the black "bumps" facing to the clew of the boom. Once the OH rope is on, I then rotate the pulley so that the black "bumps" are facing to the front of the boom and are locked into position by the tension of the OH. This overcame a few problems I had when the black "bumps" fouled the OH rope when they were left facing the clew.

Still use this pulley on my 6.2 and 6.5m sails, but on the 7.5 and 8.5m sails I found that lower friction and better leverage was gained using using a Ronstan 2-pulley block and a quick-connect U shackle on the clew of each sail, albeit at greatly increased cost and extra distance between the clew and the end of the boom.
