This is an interesting view of the boom head clamp and mast flexing while sailing.

I remember reading somewhere that it was suggested that the boom head clamp to be tight so when you clamp it on it snaps with force. I am not sure if that was correct but, in the footage my boom head is springing with the movement of the mast. It looks very loose but it is secure.

I would imagine if the boom head clamp was so tight, not allowing for flex, that the mast has the potential to snap at this point.

What are your thoughts and do you adjust your clamp setting's each time you rig.

I recall seeing a Go Pro video last year sometime where the boom head/clamp area was flexing as much as the above video if not more, and it was fairly flat water too. I use the thick (hard) rubber nolimitz shims that come with the ezzy rdm's and they feel rock solid even with minimal clamp pressure but it would be quite interesting to see if that actually was the case when sailing.

Had another look at the boom head and this time applied abit more clamp pressure but the same result as the video movement.

It does look like the mast sleeve at the boom is curved outwards therefore it is not touching the mast at all on either ends of this mast sleeve, which results in the movement as you mention there Mark australia.
I guess it might be just the boom head type.

Yeh Barn, North can have the idea just like all there other ideas.

There is alot of pressure we put on this section of the boom as we hang low in the harness lines so some movement would be present that would be normal right?.

I will gopro another new chinook boom next sail and see the results
