I recently got some formula equipment for recreational use, including a RS Slalom 10m sail. Unfortunately my boom - NP X6 - falls 4 cm short of the recommended length. Formula booms seem to be larger at the clew , and very expensive. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a tail end piece for my X6 that would be a bit longer and wider? or do you think the problem could be solved by shortening the sail at the clew by 4cm - would the batten on top be stiff enough ?
Thanks for any advice.

10M RS slalom for recreational use ... Wow erm that's quite some recreation going on there, I guess it all recreation unless you are getting paid but 10m RS would not be my first choice for ideal recreational fun.

With regards to the boom I think the back end / front arms go together as a pair and are not meant to be interchangeable due to designed min/ max movement / change in angles etc but I am probably wrong.

Formula booms are wider at the end for racers using adjustable outhauls etc, if you are using it for what I am thinking you mean - recreational means just get planing and have fun (?) - then you don't need it.

But you do need length. You may get away with using the tail piece from the next boom size up as you only need 4cm which is stuff all. But the boom will be mega stressed at full extension.

Moving the clew grommet inwards and cutting away clew is major surgery - possible but may or may not work and will cost maybe $100. You could get a longer boom in OK condition for not much more.

I say longer boom........

I us 7.7m for light wind, was on a 8.6m while back and they feel a lot heavier.

Nothing wrong with 10m provided you have strong forearms.

would do neither of those options.. just get a bigger boom you dont want to use a small one on max extension .

Nothing at all as far as I can tell, what makes you think there is something wrong with it?

Power, ring Sam or Chris at Windsurf n Snow at Collaroy in Sydney.
Sam sorted me out with a new x6 extension for formula. They know what they're doing.
