sailing saturday at marmong on one of james older sets of gear a 8.5twin cam gastra and a bic formula board i think ..think of buying my own kit weighting 70kg at best and 175cm tall i was advised in the way of STARBOARD boards 158 or 165 i think what was said .. and 10m .. i only use a 60% carbon mast now with smaller sails .. do i realy need to run a 100% or near that to be compedative at later stages? does it make much a difrence?also brands that make a 10m sail .. as i learner i know thier a good chance of a couple of catapuls at that top mark bearaway :) so a strong sail would suit better than a light weaker one ..
thanks for anny usefull coments

Hey Nicko,
Great to hear you're keen for the big stuff. Have a chat to John Bear as he has said he is selling his Starboard 159 which would be perfect for someone starting out.
As for masts it's not too easy getting 520 mast in anything but 100% these days. Important to match mast to the sail you're looking for before you jump and get any old mast.
Booms is the area that can be a sticking point. At your weight you could get away with a big alloy boom for a bit but from experience it won't last super long.
Good luck,
Sam.
