far from an expert, but hey it's the internet, so i'm going to offer an opinion!

i recall Pryde brought out a series of sails designed for early planning thru a tighter-than-usual leech so they were less prone to spilling precious gusts. now i'm not 100% sure, but i think that range was the Helium, so if you're rigging to spec, that actually might be the correct look for the sail.

Except for the race sails, the NP website shows only one rigging guide for 2008 flatwater sails, shown here: http://www.neilpryde.com/images/en/downloads/ws_rigging_guide_2008_en.pdf.

If you have the correct mast and the correct mast extension, would suggest that you experiment to get the power you need by varying the amount of downhaul and the amount of outhaul (minimum downhaul + minimum outhaul = power and vice versa)

Hope this helps.

I have an 8.4 one of these and as the above people have mentioned they are designed to hold gusts and keep you on the plane in light winds.
After to speaking to the luminaries amongst the Melville Beech crew more down haul than was stated made the sail handle better in the gusts, but otherwise works as stated, great light wind power sail.

I have the 2008 8.5 and set it always to the stated downhaul (and yes it does have a tight leech) and only make changes to the outhaul. I've found if you over downhaul this sail it just kills it, you can control it through outhaul alone, sometimes extending the boom by up to 4cm. When overpowerd this sail is very backhanded and top heavy and i've found nothing will fix this, Just make your harness lines are a bit wider then normal and this helps when overpowered. When in the right condition (10-12knots) and attached to a superlight wind It's a dream to sail.

I'm think I found a helium rigging guide on itunes once, I'm sure it would still be there..If not try the Pryde website.

Cheers

Max, aluminium booms are fragile at the best of times when used at full extension, particularly on big sails. Would not recommend drilling extra holes.

The use of the Arrows mast is part of your concern re the look of the sail once rigged, but if you are keeping up with your friends on the water, that is all that matters.

Hope this helps.

the helium has no loose leech whatsoever built only for light 8-12kts but didn't really take off as a really good sail but will get you planing sooner..anything faster or stronger you don't have top end as the sail becomes a drag
