for those that may be interested Windsurfer International have just released the latest issue. In it they generously did a rather large story on the wizards of Oz movie.

Brian (the magazine editor) asked some interesting questions that relate as much to identity of windsurfing in Australia as they do to the movie itself.

You can read it here:

As an aside:

I reckon this online magazine format could work really well as an ipad app (Windsurfer international are working on one) - with something like a $10 per year subscription (made up figure - but i would imagine something pretty cheap) delivered to a beautiful device like an iPad (or other manufacturer's tablet- i am sure there will be heaps soon) where you can relax on the sofa , by the fire / heater and enjoy a magazine like experience with video embedded.

Looks like a winner to me. Maybe the ipad / tablet will be the saviour of the magazine / newspaper industry ?

Nice article Reflex!,
There certainly are some ideas floating around with Ipad apps....the nice thing is you could produce a digital magazine which has all sorts of embedded media in it- video, animation, games etc.
It also will definately become a launch platform so we might see Wizards 2 available as a Ipad app!!!

Thats where an ipad magazine app would be gold - as it would just download the mag once for you to watch whenever you like in the future. - this is how 4500 people are now reading the Australian newspaper electronically- and thats just within 1 week of the Ipad being launched in Australia.

Think about all the saved trees and fuel by not having to drive and fly newspapers all over the country.

If this takes off i would be very excited about distributing video on this format -

With all those display pixels to work with - The picture will look awesome -

and no converting beautiful hi def images down to SD DVD quality - and no outrageous blu ray licensing fees to pay! Perfect!!

If you bought a Boards magazine subscription with the online access as well, you got access to an electronic version with Zinio and you were free to pass a copy along to a friend as part of the same deal.

I think it had the ability to have embedded content, although I can't say I used it.

Maybe Zinio will release an app for the ipad?

There will always be people like me that prefer the printed copy, but I am sure the portability of these new tablet devices will make it more practical.

The biggest problem with this idea is download speeds, many of us are still stuck with crap internet and unlikely to get good access. No profit to supply to the country. If we could download the mag and save it as suggested then it might work. I like paper, works anywhere, doesn,t go flat, can be dropped, squashed, read in sunlight, chucked into the car and still work after many years.

Of course you wouldn't! Only a fool would do that.

You'd buy a $1000 iPad for some of these reasons;

- It takes less than a second to start up
- The battery lasts at least ten hours
- The quality of the screen picture is UNBELIEVABLE
- The touchscreen makes for way better web browsing (among other things)
- It is a much smaller and lighter device to travel with, and so is the charger
- You can carry an enormous library of music, movies, books, magazines, maps, photos and newspapers wherever you go in this tiny package - so it's awesome for travelling
- It's got GPS navigation
- It's incredibly easy to use, compared with any laptop.

It has some downfalls (no flash being the biggest IMO, plus you can't upload your gps data), but you asked the question - there's the answer.

I agree strongly with Reflex - Windsurfing International for the iPad would be really...really good.

"boards magazine" has the iphone application which allows viewing and reading their issues on iphone, ipad. Cheaper than international subscription by far.

and it has a crappy SSD capacity plus isn't win7 based so it won't run a multitude of apps or multimedia formats....... if i'm going to spend $1000 i'd rather get an asus Eee tablet, so much bang for buck there.
